FLORIDA COMPREHENSIVE<br />

ASSESSMENT TEST<br />

The FCAT, administered to students in Grades<br />

3-11, consists of criterion-referenced tests in<br />

mathematics, reading, science, and writing, which<br />

measure student progress toward meeting the<br />

Sunshine State Standards benchmarks. Adequate<br />

performance is a score level of 3.0 or above.

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED?<br />

•What we are currently doing is working.<br />

•5th grade needs improvement.<br />

•Compared to local elementary schools in the county, FSUS<br />

ranks as one of the highest performing schools.


WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT?<br />

(Elementary)<br />

•Continue successful and proven practices in elementary.<br />

•5th Grade- Teacher changes, increased professional<br />

development, departmentalize subject areas, intense focus<br />

on science and math through research-based practices,<br />

strict guidelines for only math and science-based field trips.<br />

•Continue to set the standard for high academic<br />

achievement.

•New Secondary Suite located in Student Services<br />

•7th Grade Math- Pearson SuccessMaker, smaller class sizes<br />

•10th Grade Reading and Math- smaller class sizes, teacher<br />

changes, increased progress monitoring<br />

• 8th and 11th Grade Science-smaller class sizes, increased<br />

project-based learning through research-based practices.
