Job Title: Overseas Operations Officer<br />

Reporting to: Head of Operations & Managing Director<br />

Responsible to: Head of Operations & Managing Director<br />

Location: Frontier Headquarters, London<br />

PRIMARY FUNCTION<br />

To assist the Head of Operations in the operation and administration of Frontier’s overseas<br />

conservation, teaching & community projects, expeditions and country HQ’s. The role includes the<br />

day to day support for the field projects including budgets, equipment, communications,<br />

procurement, staff and transportation and also comprises a large element of human resources for<br />

both the overseas projects and London HQ.<br />

GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE ROLE<br />

Manage the following with the assistance from the Overseas Operations team;<br />

- Recruitment, interviewing, briefing, training and ongoing development of staff in the field and<br />

in the head office.<br />

- Ensuring the smooth running of the overseas projects through efficient organization of<br />

recruitment and reporting systems;<br />

- Collating and reviewing internal reports and equipment inventories from projects;<br />

- Sourcing, purchasing, and despatching equipment for field projects and London office;<br />

- Communication with overseas projects, expeditions and country HQ’s;<br />

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

Human resources:<br />

- Manage online job vacancies and advertising and current staff profiles;<br />

- Arrange and conduct all London and field staff interviews and make recruitment decisions;<br />

- Prepare staff contracts and documentation, ensure all relevant paperwork is completed<br />

before deployment;<br />

- Developing, planning and implementing the Field Staff Training days (minimum 10 per year)<br />

for volunteers;<br />

- Assist in the preparation and processing of staff wages;<br />

Operations:<br />

- Communicate via situation reports and phone calls to all field projects, expeditions and<br />

country HQ’s;<br />

- Ensure that all communications are recorded effectively;<br />

- Monitor project activities through reporting and updating system and advise or enforce<br />

change as necessary;<br />

- Ensure that internal reports are provided in the correct format and on time;<br />

Logistics:<br />

- Collate requests for equipment from staff and provide feedback;<br />

- Identification of suppliers and the purchase of equipment for projects and London;<br />

- Managing invoices for equipment purchases (in cooperation with the Accounts Department);<br />

- Sourcing potential sponsors and donors of equipment;<br />

- Oversee and coordinating the packing and despatch of equipment to field projects,<br />

expeditions and country HQs;<br />

- Advise on repair and supply queries from project staff.<br />

Others:<br />

- Assist other London HQ staff, as necessary, including presenting at volunteer recruitment<br />

sessions and assisting at quarterly Briefing Weekend and Training Weekend;<br />

- Any other tasks as required by the Head of Operations or Managing Director.<br />

TERMS & CONDITIONS<br />

Contract Duration: £12,000 – £15,000 p.a.<br />

Appointments will normally be made at the bottom of the range<br />

Subsistence: Possibility of overseas placement on a Frontier research programme upon<br />

completion of contract according to background.<br />

Education/Knowledge:<br />

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE<br />

- Educated to degree level in a<br />

relevant social science or<br />

environmental discipline<br />

Experience: - Office and administration<br />

experience<br />

- Managing a team of staff and<br />

resources<br />

- Proven logistical coordination<br />

abilities<br />

- Recruitment and preparing<br />

contractual agreements<br />

- Working in a dynamic environment<br />

as part of a small team<br />

- Experience of working in difficult<br />

field research conditions in a<br />

developing country<br />

- Knowledge of conservation, travel<br />

and development issues<br />

- Working as part of a team<br />

Skills: - Excellent report-writing and<br />

presentation skills<br />

- Excellent numerical skills<br />

- Relevant Masters degree<br />

- Working with NGOs<br />

- Fund-raising through donor<br />

agencies<br />

- Writing promotional material<br />

- Hold a full, clean driving licence<br />

- French, Spanish, Cambodian,<br />

Kiswahili, Fijian or Malagasy<br />
