Discounted access to exercise
and leisure activities

The Be Active scheme
If you’re receiving benefits, allowances or other forms of
support, you are probably eligible for generous discounts
on a whole range of activities, exercise classes and leisure
opportunities all over the borough. Registering for the
scheme gives you a real chance to improve your health,
become fitter and enjoy a huge range of exercise choices.
There’s never been a better time to be active.
How to register
To register for the Be Active scheme, take proof of your
name and address, and any other required documents
shown in the table, to one of the libraries listed on this
leaflet. If you already have a library card, they will register
it with the Be Active scheme. If you don’t have a library
card, you will be given one when you join the scheme.
It is free to register.
Your registered library card will enable you to use any of
the Lewisham leisure centres listed on this leaflet. You don’t
need to pay the library anything but you will need to pay a
leisure centre for casual or unlimited use.
Casual membership
When you register you are automatically given casual
membership. Many people will already be eligible for
free swimming (e.g. over-60s, residents receiving
disability allowance) so if you only want to swim you
may not need to pay anything extra. If you want to make
use of other facilities, casual membership will entitle you
to a 25% discount.
Unlimited membership
Unlimited membership gives you unlimited use of all the
activities offered at Lewisham leisure centres for around £5
a week. This includes the pool, gym and exercise classes.
Monthly membership costs £21.45 and you need to pay by
direct debit for at least three months (renewable).

of the athletic track and reasonable assistance with
the person you care for. It does not give you free
access if you are not accompanying the person you
care for.
