Coworkers and family members gathered<br />
together to bestow congratulations on 70<br />
outstanding individuals who had been<br />
nominated for the <strong>Laura</strong> <strong>Gross</strong> Award for<br />
Service Excellence, the most prestigious award<br />
given out to employees by <strong>Faith</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> at its<br />
annual Employee Recognition Banquet.<br />
No one knew who the winners were until<br />
the very end of the evening, so there was much<br />
excitement and anticipation felt throughout<br />
the night. All nominees were invited up to the<br />
stage to be recognized by Robert L. Driewer,<br />
Chief Executive Officer of <strong>Faith</strong> <strong>Regional</strong>.<br />
Following are excerpts taken from the 2004<br />
<strong>Laura</strong> <strong>Gross</strong> nominations submitted by their<br />
peers. Experts from the rest of the nominations<br />
will be featured in upcoming issues of Campus<br />
Connection . . . and the winners were:<br />
Nicole Bernhardt — Guest <strong>Services</strong>:<br />
. . . She knows what service excellence is<br />
all about. She always works to put a smile<br />
on someone’s face, whether that someone is a<br />
patient, a visitor or a coworker. She is a very<br />
caring individual and everyone who comes in<br />
contact with her gets treated with true care<br />
and respect. She goes way beyond her call of<br />
duty in the department because of how much<br />
she cares. She is someone who always puts the<br />
needs of others before herself.<br />
LeAnne Brodersen — Radiology:<br />
. . . Her dedication to her patients and to<br />
her profession inspires the confidence and<br />
cooperation of everyone. She shows only the<br />
deepest warmth, respect and consideration of<br />
her patients and coworkers . . . she never says<br />
‘No,’ only ‘Sure, I can do that,’ or ‘How can we<br />
make this work?’ She is a kind, compassionate<br />
individual who respects the opinions and<br />
abilities of others and who always encourages<br />
new opportunities. If I were given the<br />
opportunity to design an exemplary manager, I<br />
would not be able to do any better than her.<br />
Monica Emory — Nutrition <strong>Services</strong>:<br />

compassionate toward others . . . you can<br />

part of the <strong>Faith</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> team. If<br />
something doesn’t work, she tries something<br />
new and she is always full of ideas to share<br />
with others. She has given us all goals to<br />
strive for and is always there when someone<br />
needs to discuss a problem or need. She is a<br />
leader that we are all very proud of.<br />
Diana Gaspers — Spiritual Care:<br />
. . . She is always able to bring love and<br />
support in a quiet, gentle manner. Her<br />
most endearing quality is to give love and<br />
attention to those who need a listening,<br />
non-judgmental ear. Because of her desire<br />
to work behind the scenes and not bring<br />
attention to herself, she does what our<br />
organization stands for . . . to serve others as<br />
Christ. She always says the right thing at the<br />
right time and is there for everyone, 24-7.<br />
Her kind and caring ways follow her in all<br />
that she does . . . she is the ‘wind beneath the<br />
wings’ of many of her coworkers because of<br />
her encouragement and desire to help others<br />
succeed.<br />

Each year, <strong>Faith</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Services</strong> recognizes employees for their years of dedicated service in<br />
caring for our patients and families every day. This year, 133 individuals were honored at the Eighth Annual<br />
Employee <strong>Awards</strong> Banquet held Tuesday evening, October 5, at Divots in Norfolk.<br />
There were 38 people honored for 5 years of service, 33 for 10 years, 29 for 15 years, 13 for 20 years, 16 for<br />
