BENEFITS & FEATURES
Fill-up is accomplished by pumping through the top drive. Hoses or
conventional accessories are NOT required.
Fill-up can be accomplished while casing is run. No shutdown is required.
Circulation is accomplished by slacking down to place the FC-1 seal inside
the casing.
Circulation can be achieved while washing down without accessory rig-up.
The Mud Saver Valve eliminates spilling of costly drilling fluids after fill or
circulation.
Rig time is saved by performing both fill-up and circulation without rigging
up accessories.
Safety is improved as rig hands are not near pressure lines or valves while
filling or circulating.
Operation does not require axial movement to actuate the Mud Saver valve.
This drawing drawing above shows
the tool connected to the top drive.
Spacer joints space the tool out so
that the packer cup is just above the
elevator. The FC-1 has an armour
flex-hose to help guide the tool into
the pipe.
FC-1 Filling Up
This drawing shows the elevator
set on the pipe in the normal position.
Notice that the packer cup is
still above the collar of the pipe.
This is the position used for filling
the pipe. Filling may begin as
soon as the elevator is set.
Circulating
FC-1 Circulating
The drawing above depicts the FC-1
ready to circualte. The elevator has
been released and lowered, allowing
the packer cup to enter the pipe.
Once the slips are set on the
elevator, circulation can begin.
Frank’s FC-1 and FC-2 offers Flexibility
Side Port Entry Sub
- For top drive rigs that can not use the kelly hose when running casing. Allows 2”
mud supply hose to be conected to the FC-1 tool for casing fill-up and circulating.
Also maybe used on Flow-back jobs, where flowing back through the top drive
cause a restriction.
Fill-up and Circulating Tool with Push Down Plate
- 4-1/2” to 26” casing fill-up and circulating cababilities, with the added benefit of
being able to apply the weight of the top drive / hook directly to the casing string.
This aids in pushing the casing pass obstructions and / or dog legs.
Flow Back Tool Application
- 4-1/2” to 26” casing reverse flow capablities, can transfer fluid for the casing
annulus back to the mud pits as the casings is lower into the hole. For tie-backs in
cased hole applications.
Flow Back and Circulating Applications
- 4-1/2” to 26” casing reverse flow capablities and circulating conditions for well
control problems on liners, and full strings with sensitive pressure gradients.
Sliding Sleeve Accessory
- Unique pressure bypass mandrel eliminates the possibility of pulling the seal
under pressure, increases Mud Saver Valve life and circulation rates.
Fill-up, Circulating, and Cementing Tool Applications
- 7” to 20” fill-up and circulating during casing operations and converts to cementing
operations.
Tie-back Pressure Test Applications
- 4-1/2” to 26” casing pressure test on tie-backs, economical on batch jobs with
multiple casing sizes and multiple wells.
Stab-in Cementing Pack Off Tool
- 9-5/8” to 26” casing fill-up and circulating on casing running operations for Tag-in
jobs and then may be used to pressurize the casing annulus for setting external
casing packer.
Figure 1
Frank’s Fill-up tool dressed for a
standard Fill-up tool job. Note the
new equalizer sub (shown in red)
which has a flow area of a full
7-1/5”. Once the stand pipe is
opened, this valve automatically
equalizes any pressure which
may be trapped under the cup.
Valve open
during flowback
Figure 2
The flowback valve placed in a
short hose and attached to the
bottom of a flow back tool.
Because the valve opens only one
way, mud flows back up inside of
the casing to be retreived through
the top drive and into the mud pit.
In order to trap any fluid which may
be flowing back, the FC-1 is
dressed out long enough to stab
into the casing each time.
Valve closed
during circulation
Figure 3
Once the tool is picked up out of
the casing, the flowback valve
automatically closes. When this
happens, mud will not leak out of
the tool or top drive. Because this
is a one-way valve, circulation is
possible only if the tool is dressed
with a sliding sleeve as shown
above. If the sliding sleeve is not in
place and circulation is required,
the valve must be removed.

Technical Data Sheet
Pressure Rating
Pressure applied to the tool from inside the casing results in a piston force
acting upward on the tool subjecting it to buckling forces. For this reason,
pressure applied to the tool should not exceed the pressures listed below.
Circulation Rates
Circulation Mode - During Circulation, any flow rate needed can be achieved,
especially if circulating through tight zones. Typically, flow rates up to 25 bpm
can be achieved for short periods of time. High rates and duration may erode
mud saver valve. If circulating greater than 6 hours at 15bpm, it is recomended
that the mud saver valve be removed.
Cementing Mode - During cementing, flow rates of 10 bpm for up to 3 hours
can be achieved. Displacement rates and times in excesss of 10 bpm for 3
hors can result in a lower observed plug landing pressure.
