Green Flag Award Successfully Renewed!
On Wednesday 19 th January, we were visited by an
inspector from ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ which runs the
‘Eco-Schools’ initiative. He was shown round the
school and looked at how we recycle, deal with
litter, power our lights, and our environmental
garden. Some members from our past and present
Eco committees chatted to him as well.
As a result of his visit, we successfully renewed our
Green Flag. Well done everyone! It really is a
whole school effort by all staff, support staff and
children.
P.S. Any ideas on how we can stop the squirrels trying to eat our bins?!
Year 6 Class Assembly
Thomas and Henry came up with the fantastic
idea of basing the main character of their
Assembly on Dr Who. This time, however, it
was Dr V and his sidekick, scientist Mr Magma.
Dr V and Mr Magma travelled through time and
space (in a rather humorous fashion!) to visit
volcanoes in Pompeii, Iceland and the Ring of
Fire in the Pacific Ocean. We learned all about
these eruptions and the impact they had on the
people and the surrounding land. Well done,
Year 6!

Year 5 Class Assembly
Continuing the Dr Who theme, Year 5
performed a lively and informative Assembly
yesterday about The Ancient Greeks.
Dr Who (Harry Forster) and his History mad
assistant (Abigail) took the Tardis back in time
to meet ancient Greek gods and goddesses,
athletes from the first Olympic Games, Hercules
and Cerberus, the three-headed dog!
Pastures New
We will be saying a sad ‘goodbye’ to Mr Chalmers at Half Term as he leaves us to take up a post at
Saracens Rugby Club. This is a wonderful opportunity for him and we wish him lots of luck!
Mr Richard Pulsford will be joining us after Half Term to take over Mr Chalmer’s responsibilities.
Mr Pulsford is a qualified Level 1 Cricket Coach and is very much looking forward to becoming part
of the Fosse family and getting to know all our children.

School Swimming Lessons
As Swimming is a statutory subject in the National Curriculum, we would like to remind parents that
all children are expected to participate in their class swimming lesson each week. If parents feel that
their child is not well enough to swim, we request that they remain at home that day. If a child is in
school but has an injury which prevents them from swimming, a letter to Mrs Young giving details of
the injury is required. If an injury persists over a lengthy period of time, we would ask that a letter
from your child’s GP is provided.
Swimming is an excellent life skill which we hope that all our children will enjoy developing.
Gym Demonstration Lessons on
Wednesday 2 nd February 2011
The children are looking forward to participating in
the Gym Demonstration Lessons on Wednesday 2 nd
February 2011. Due to timetabling constraints,
these lessons will now involve Reception to Year 3
children only. Parents are invited to watch and
admire the developing gymnastics skills of their
children.
The lessons will take place in the Sports Hall
at the following times:
9.05am Reception
9.20am Year 1
9.40am Year 2
10.00am Year 3
PE kit should be clean and
boys in Year 3 should wear
white shorts.
On Sunday 10 th April at Tonbridge Pool I am
going to swim in this year’s Swimathon as
part of a team from Monson Swimming
Club. There are four of us who will swim 50
lengths each and we hope to raise lots of
money.
All the money raised will allow Marie Curie
Nurses to provide more care to people with
terminal cancer and other illnesses.
