Skyline Luncheon: Thursday, March 21, 11:00 a.m.<br />

Our second Skyline Luncheon considers how the Industrial<br />

Revolution wrought new technologies <strong>and</strong> materials which<br />

forged the way for the first skyscrapers. The elevator <strong>and</strong><br />

electric lighting made skyscrapers easier to build <strong>and</strong> inhabit.<br />

Chicago <strong>and</strong> New York City led the way: iron-framed<br />

structures with deep foundations began to change the<br />

city silhouettes.<br />

Palmer House Hotel Tour: Wednesday, April 3, 12:00 noon<br />

Tour the historic Palmer House Hilton, preceded by lunch in<br />

the hotel’s Lockwood restaurant. The hotel’s Director of Public<br />

Relations <strong>and</strong> 30-year resident historian, Ken Price, will guide<br />

us through its fabulous Art Deco lobby, gr<strong>and</strong> ballrooms,<br />

<strong>and</strong> guestrooms, <strong>and</strong> we will see vintage artifacts showcased<br />

throughout the historic property. Take an exclusive, behindthe-scenes<br />

look at these sites not normally open to the public.<br />
