STEWARDSHIP
Today marks the beginning of a new
liturgical year and the start of the Advent
season.
Advent is a season of joyful anticipation.
We anticipate the celebration of Jesus’
birth on Christmas day and we prepare
our hearts and minds to celebrate the
mystery of the incarnation, but, as today’s readings
remind us, Advent is also a time for us to focus on
the second coming of Christ and to remind us that we
should constantly be watchful and alert, “you do not
know when the Lord of the house is coming”
In the first reading, from the book of Isaiah,
we hear about a people pleading for the Lord to
intervene in their lives in a big way. Then, in the
epistle, St. Paul praises the Lord who has intervened
in history and sent His Son as the fulfillment of the
Jews, messianic hope. St. Paul tells the Corinthians,
“in Him you were enriched in every way … as the
testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so
that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you
wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The parable in Mark’s gospel reiterates these
sentiments. Jesus tells of a man who travels abroad,
placing his servants in charge, each with his own
work. He tells the gatekeeper, “Watch, therefore. You
do not know when the Lord of the house is coming.”
We have all been blessed beyond belief. Leaving
us to care for His creation, God has given us a
multitude of gifts. In fact, even our very lives are
gifts from God, and as we live life today, we await
His return in glory. As stewards of these gifts, we
are called to be alert, to always be ready, and to
constantly prepare for His return, using the gifts
He has given us to build His kingdom, serving our
families, our parishes, and the greater community in
such a way that others see Christ in us and are,
therefore, drawn closer to Him.
SPECIAL NEED!
The Diocese of Venice sent an article to the news
papers about the tragic accident and death of 12year-old
Adrian Rodriguez. Wauchula’s St. Michael
Catholic Church’s Youth Group as well as our Youth
Groups have been very saddened by this since we
have spent time with each other through the years.
Our youth are working very diligently to put together
a special celebration of Adrian’s life on Saturday,
December 10 at Pioneer Park in Wauchula. This
event is to include our neighboring diocesan youth
groups and is to be a free event for them. If you
are interested in more information or would like
to donate time or funds, please contact Michelle

WE GIVE THANKS
This is the special time year for giving thanks.
In that spirit, our homebound and nursing home
parishioners would like to thank the Craft and
Rosary Makers for the thoughtful gifts that they
continue to make throughout the year. They are
especially grateful for the sweet Halloween treats,
along with the smiling Thanksgiving scarecrows.

NOW HERE—NEW LITURGY
This weekend we will begin the new liturgy that
we have been preparing to receive. To learn more
about the Mass changes, please take one of our Free
CDs. These CDs explain the changes that are taking
place in the Mass. The CDs are located in the Church
vestibule for you to borrow and pass on to a friend.
THE GIVING TREE
The Giving Tree is located in the vestibule of the
church. On the tree, there are tags with the ages and
genders of the needy children in the Faith Formation
program, along with other needy children.
Gift cards are the best choice of gift for the
children. Please select a tag, purchase a gift card,
bring it in an envelope with the tag visible on the
outside of the envelope and place it in
a bag under the tree.

November has gone by quickly! We are all stuffed from
the delicious food that we had this weekend. There is excitement
in the air as we approach Advent and Christmas.
I am so proud of our students. On November 11,
2011, Veterans Day, the Kindergarten to Fifth grade students
sang two songs in church to honor the Veterans. The songs
were: When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again and America
the Beautiful. There was a slide show shown of the veterans
during the homily. This slide show included pictures and
information of the veterans that turned in their information.
We had Veterans who served all over the world! It was
wonderful to hear some of the places they had been. The
children were attentive as they shared where they were
stationed. The children also waved the American flag for the
recessional. They made cards, placemats and a banner to show
how much the Veterans mean to them.
There was also a breakfast that followed in the Parish
hall. Some of the children were selected to be servers and
enjoyed speaking to those who stayed to eat.
Please keep an eye out for the date of the upcoming
Christmas program with the children that will be held inside
the church.
Thank you to all who support St. Catherine School. So far,
it has been a wonderful four months. God bless all of you for all
that you do each day to keep your children at St. Catherine.

Our LifeTeen continues

FAMILY MASS
Family Mass at the Holy Family Youth Center

GRIEF THERAPY
