protection in gas appliances.<br />
The Smart House design must meet rigid requirements <strong>for</strong> reliability and ease af<br />
installation and maintenance. As an example <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> attention being paid to reliability,<br />
<strong>the</strong> Smart House design provides home control through use <strong>of</strong> several distributed<br />
controllers all wired toge<strong>the</strong>r, each with <strong>the</strong> ability to back up one ano<strong>the</strong>r in case <strong>of</strong><br />
failure. This redundancy avoids <strong>the</strong> sudden loss <strong>of</strong> all home control functions that could<br />
occur if only one central controller were used.<br />
