Jewish Culture T he Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah promotes the transmission of the millenniaold Jewish culture, which the Nazis tried to annihilate. The goal is to explore the diversity of the Jewish identity and to transmit it, particularly to a younger generation. The Jewish Culture Committee stresses Jewish education, the fight against anti-Semitism and the translation of key texts on Jewish heritage. Examples of supported projects Cultural events Exhibitions at the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme in Paris (Splendor of the Camondo, The Avant-Garde and the Yiddish Book, 1914-1939) Anthologies Jewish Kingdoms, anthology of Yiddish literature edited by Rachel Ertel Anthology of Judaism, edited by Francine Cicurel Translations Light of the Eternal by Hasdaï Crescas Pirké Avoth (Maxims from the Fathers), with notes by Marcus Leehman Hok le Israël Media watch Against anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial The Rachel and Jacob Gordin Foundation for school buildings The Gordin Foundation brings together the main partners involved in financing Jewish school buildings. It is presided over by David de Rothschild and is housed by the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah, within the framework of a partnership with the FSJU and other foundations.
Projects launched by the Foundation The Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah has, in certain cases, initiated projects. Examples of several Foundation projects National tribute to the Righteous of France Pantheon, January 2007: Ceremony and installation of a plaque dedicated to the Righteous of France. Renovation of the Judenrampe The place where convoys disembarked at Auschwitz-Birkenau between June 1942 and May 1944 New French edition of the Album d’Auschwitz Reference document on the fate of Jews in Auschwitz-Birkenau Aladdin Project to counter Holocaust denial Translation of important books on the Holocaust into Arabic and Persian; and a multilingual website.
