UNEMPLOYED?
THIS COURSE QUALIFIES FOR STATE
TRAINING GRANTS
Hours: 170
Training: Students will train at a seven-acre
trucking terminal and then in the final
weeks on the road. The practice area is in an
isolated, low traffic area to make for a
comfortable learning environment, while
students are negotiating basic maneuvers
during the early weeks. School trucks are not
limited to this area only, especially after the
first weeks when they move to the road
course. A simulated road course allows
students to become familiar with the trucks
they will be driving before they hit the
highway. This involves shifting up and down
through the gears, as well as maneuvering
a 48–53 foot trailer around corners and
between other vehicles. As you drive through
the course, you are accompanied by an
instructor who provides encouragement not
only on driving techniques, but also defensive
driving procedures. After you have
become proficient with basic backing skills,
you can then move to more sophisticated
maneuvers in the yard involving other
vehicles and trailers found at customer
locations. Normal traffic associated with the
truck terminal adds to the learning experience
as students practice doing what truckers
do many times a day. 17 CEUs
An Introduction to Teaching
ESL/EFL — Online
Would you like to increase your effectiveness
as an English language teacher? Would you
like to go beyond the well-known methods
that often leave teachers frustrated with their
one-size-fits-all approach? This course will
take you on a fascinating exploration of what
it means to be a teacher, how to understand
who your students are and the needs they
have, and how to choose the most appropriate
materials and activities for your classroom.
You’ll learn how you can choose and fine-tune
the principles that exactly fit your teaching
situation. During the next six weeks, we’ll
rethink the traditional native vs. non-native
speaker distinction, see why teaching English
is so different from teaching other subjects,
and explore innovative approaches like
Communicative Language Teaching and the
lexical approach. You’ll gain new insights and
ideas for teaching vocabulary, grammar,
listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
You’ll also discover what some of your
options are in designing fair and accurate
tests. And you’ll learn how to keep learning
Writing a Business Plan
Successful businesses start with a strong
business plan. Comprehensive business plans
include financial projections, an industry
analysis, and a complete marketing plan.
A business plan demonstrates the viability
of the business and communicates a person’s
ability to manage the business. This course
introduces the format of a business plan,
the information that should be included,
and most importantly where a person will
find the appropriate information to create
a business plan. (No business plan need be
created at this point. That will occur at or
after the one-on-one counseling session,
since the groundwork has been laid in this
program.)
Forgiveness – A Healing
Journey
An eight-session workshop series for
individuals who have been hurt by people
or events in their lives. Individuals who have
been emotionally and/or physically hurt in
the past may continue to suffer many years
later as a result of their prior experiences. As
a result of prior hurt and pain, some of the
following situations may occur. An individual
may experience high levels of anger and
frustration, may be afraid to trust other
people due to the fear of being hurt again,
may engage in self destructive behaviors, or
may even treat loved ones badly. During this
eight-session workshop, individuals will learn
ways to relieve the hurt and pain so that they
can move on with their lives. They will also
learn how to let go of anger. Holding on to
anger requires a great deal of emotional
energy and keeps a person tied to the past.
In order to move on to a healthier life in the
future, a person must make a conscious
decision to let go of anger from the past.
Learning to forgive is an important part
of the healing process.
