"John <strong>Dwight</strong>, yeoman, Watertown, proprietor 1635; removed to Ded ham; pioneer; freeman March 13, 1638-9.<br />

Town officer. Bought o ne half of a water-mill 8 (6) 1642. Wife Hannah admitted to th e church 9 (11) 1639.<br />

She died 5 (7) 1656; he married 20 (11) 1 657, Elizabeth, widow successively of Thomas Thaxter and Wm. Rip<br />

ley. She died July 17, 1660.<br />

He died 24 (1) 1660. Will probated March 5, 1660-1; wife Elizab eth; son Timothy, daughters Hannah Whiting,<br />

Mary Phillips, and S arah Reynolds. Sons-in-law Nathaniel Whiting, Henry Philips an d Nathaniel Reynolds.<br />

JOHN DWIGHT, of Dedham, yeoman, being in prfect health, this 16t h June 1658, doe make this my last will.<br />

To my wife, Elizabeth , that now is, Ð50 sterling, to be payd her by my Executors, i n Currant Country pay, at my<br />

now dwelling house, at Dedham, with in 3 monethes after my decease, as by Couenant, before our marri age,<br />

appeareth; also all her weareing Apparell, both linen and w oollen, alsoe that my said wife shall haue dyet allowed<br />

her, a t my said dwelling house, in Dedham, dureing ye space of 3 monet hes after my decease, if shee shall desire<br />

it, that soe shee ma y ye more Comfortably provide for ye remoueall of hir habitatio n to some other place. I giue<br />

vnto my sonne, Nathaniell Whitein g, 20s; vnto my sonne, Henrie Philips, 20s; vnto my sonne, Natha niell<br />

Reinolds, 20s. My will is, that my dwelling house, land , and moveables in ye Towne of Dedham, or elsewhere,<br />

which shal l be founde to my estate, at my decease, be equally devided int o fiue pts, two pts whereof I giue vnto<br />

my sonne, Timothy <strong>Dwight</strong> , and one part vnto ye Children of my son, Nathaniell Whiteing , and of Hannah, his<br />

wife, or soe many of them as shall be survi ueing at my decease, to be payde by my Executor, as in his discr etion<br />

will best conduce for their benefitt. I giue vnto my Gran d Child, Eliazar Philips, sonne of my sonne Henry<br />

Philips, and o f Mary his wife, my dau., one part of ye fiue; and if ye said El iazar shall ... ... fifth part<br />

remayneing of ye fiue, I giue vn to my dau. Sarah Reynolds, or to her child or Children, as my Ex ecutor shall see<br />

cause to dispose of it. Alsoe, my will is, tha t my son, Timothy <strong>Dwight</strong>, shall enjoy all that house and land wh ich<br />

I gaue him at hir first marriage with Sarah Sibly. Alsoe, t hat my sonne, Nathaniell Whiteing, shall enjoy all that<br />

6 Acre s of land, be it more or lesse, which lyeth in ye low playne; an d ye 2 Acres of meadow lyeing In foule<br />

meadow, which I bought o f Lieut. Joshua Fisher. My will is, that it shall be at my Exec utor's liberty to pay said<br />

Legatyes, either in land or Currant C ountry pay, and to pay them at ye same prise as they were vallue d at by ye<br />

prises at my decease. Alsoe, my will is, that my Exe cutor shall not be ingaged to pay ye said legatyes to any of y<br />

e said Children, vnder age, vntill they canne legaly giue a disc harge for ye receipt of ye same. I Appoynt my son,<br />
