H. Thornton Lorimer graduated from Amherst College in 1924 and was a 1927 honor s graduate of Harvard<br />

Law School. After being admitted to the New Hampshire ba r, he joined a Rochester, N.H., law firm, and two<br />

years later he was appointed Assistant Attorney-General for the state. At the age of 33, he was appointed a<br />

Superior Court judge by the Governor of New Hampshire and served on the Superi or Court of New<br />

Hampshire for 11 years, resigning as Chief Justice in 1945 in o rder to re-enter private practice.<br />

He married Edith Adelaide Leach of Lee, Ma ssachusetts, daughter of George C. and Adelaide L. Leach, on<br />

June 30, 1927, at her parents' home in Lee. Miss Leach was a graduate of Smith College.[2836643.FTW]<br />

Allen Ingram Lorimer was a 1924 graduate of Amherst College, at the same time a s his identical twin,<br />

Thornton Lorimer. After graduation, he lived for two yea rs in Kyoto, Japan, as a graduate fellow at Doshisha<br />

University. On his return in 1926, he entered the Union Theological Seminary in New York City where he r<br />

eceived a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1930. He was ordained before his grad uation, an unusual honor,<br />

and accepted a call to the First Congregational Churc h in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. It was during this<br />

charge that he changed the spelling of his first name to "Allan." After a pastorate of eight years at th e<br />

Franklin Street Congregational Church in Manchester, New Hampshire, he obtain ed a Doctor of Divinity<br />

from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, in 194 5. Rev. Dr. Lorimer later held parishes in Seattle,<br />

Washington; Montclair, New Jersey; and Essex, Connecticut.<br />
