Notes for TIMOTHY DWIGHT:
[2731103.FTW]
The Honorable Timothy Dwight served as a legislator in the House of Representat ives of the Massachusetts
General Court as the representative from Dedham for t he years 1691, 1692, 1693, and 1694. He was also a
selectman of Dedham, a just ice of the peace, and a captain in the militia. An 1874 genealogy of the Dwigh t
family suggests that he "died full of age and honors."
Timothy Dwight was married six times. His first wife was Sarah (Sibley) Perman whom he married in 1651 and
3

who died in childbirth the next year. He next married Sarah Powell i n 1653 and she bore him four children, two
of which died in infancy. Sarah Pow ell died in 1664 and on January 9, 1665, he married Anna Flynt (sometimes
Flint ). She bore Timothy Dwight ten children, one of which was NATHANIEL (see #364) . Anna died January
29, 1685/86, and Timothy Dwight married three more times. His last wife was the only one who outlived him, and
that by only one week. S he died on February 6, 1718, seven days after her husband.
Savage's Genealog ical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England (1860-1862) suggests that Timothy
Dwight was born about 1633, and says this about his death: "He d. 31 J an. 1718, aged 88, some say, but in 85th
yr. is prob."[1728974.FTW]
Of Dedham Rep 1791[2666767.FTW]
"Capt. Timothy Dwight, Dedham, son of John, born in England abo ut 1633, [came to America at around five or
six years of age wit h his parents and older sister Hannah in 1634-5 ] freeman in 165 5, was representative 1691
and 1692, before the new charter an d perhaps later; had six wives and more than twice as many child ren but we
can hardly appropriate the mo[ther]s. The first, Sara h Sibly, as in the will of his father she is named (but Perman ,
as Goodwin, I think erroneously says), married 11 Nov. 1651, l ived not long, died with child next year and he
married 3 May 16 53, Sarah, daughter of Michael Powell, who died 27 June, or 10 J uly 1664, had Timothy,
baptized 1 Oct. 1654, though Goodwin make s him born 1 Nov.; Sarah, 12 Apr. 1657, died young; John, 2 Jun e
1661; Sarah, again, probably 26 June 1664, died young; next, b y Ann Flint, daughter of Henry, whom he married
9 Jan. 1665, an d who died 29 Jan. 1685, he had Josiah, baptized 15 Oct. 1665, d ied soon; Nathaniel, 25 Nov.
1666; Samuel, 6 Dec. 1668; Josiah , again, 19 Feb. 1671, Harvard College 1687, before mentioned; S eth, born
25 July 1673; Ann, who died 15 Oct. 1675, at 2 months. ; Henry, 10 Dec. 1676, before mentioned; Michael, 10
Jan. 1680 ; Daniel, 23 Sept. 1681; and Jabez, 1 Sept. 1684, died soon; th e 4th wife was said to have been the
widow Mary Edmunds, who mar ried 7 Jan. 1686, [p.87] died 30 Aug. 1688; the fifth wife was E sther, daughter
of Hon. Daniel Fisher, married 31 July 1690, wh o died 30 Jan. following; and last was Bethia Morse, married 1 F
eb. 1692, and died 6 Feb. 1718. She bare him no children nor di d the fourth or fifth wives. He died 31 Jan.
1718, aged 88, so me say; but in 85th year is more probable." [Source: Savage' s Dictionary of Genealogy] This
is at least partial confirmatio n of the pedigree chart of Anna Kent, wife of Freegace Adams, wh ich is presented
on page 25 of the document entitled "Four Pione ers" by George Roy Hurlburt, 1976.
Timothy Dwight, Dedham, was a child when his father brought hi m to Dedham in 1635. He was admitted a
member of the church i n 1652, elected a representative in 1691 and 1692, and perhaps a t a later period. He is
described as one "of an excellent spiri t, peaceable, generous, charitable, and a promoter of the true i nterests of
the church and town." He died 31 Jan. 1718, ae. 83 . The late Rev. Timothy Dwight, D>D>, president of Yale
Notes for MARY LYMAN:
[2836643.FTW]
The birth of Mary Lyman went unrecorded in Northampton records and therefore th ere is no absolute certainty
that John Lyman, Jr., and Mindwell (Sheldon) Pomer oy were her parents. Most genealogists--but by no means
all--place John Jr. an d Mindwell as her parents because Northampton records show no births in this fa mily
between 1693, when a son John was born, and 1698, when a daughter Esther w as born. Mary is given a birth
year of 1695 or 1696 and inserted into this fam ily line. This seeming arbitrariness might indicate that her
grandparentage (L ieut. John Lyman and Dorcas Plumb) is also suspect, and that may very well be, but that the
immigrant ancestor, Richard Lyman, and his wife, Sarah Osborne, we re her great-grandparents there can be no
doubt: Richard and Sarah's three son s (Richard, Lieut. John, and Robert) were the progenitors of all males and
fema les in Northampton named Lyman in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centurie s.
Notes for NADEENE HAYDEN:
THE HAYDENS AND THEIR NAME
The name of Hayden is said to have derived from the town of Heydon, in the county of Norfolk, where the
family made it's home at an extremely early date. It is found on ancient records in the various forms of Heydon,
Hayden, Haiden, Heiden, Heyton, Haydens, and Hayden, of which the last is the most generally accepted form of
the name today.
The family is claimed by some authorities to have been of Norman extraction but this is not certain. One of the
earliest records of the family was of Thomas de Heydon, who was living at Heydon Hall and Manor in the late
twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. He was justice itinerant of the county of Norfolk and was succeeded by his
eldest son William, who was the father of William de Heydon, his heir, and Judge John de Heydon of Devonshire,
the last of whom was the ancestor of the noted Devonshire branch of the family.
William, eldest son and heir of William, died about 1307 and was succeeded by his eldest son Simeon, who was
the father of David, his heir, and Sir Richard Heydon, who was killed in the wars with France about 1370 and was
the ancestor of the Hertfordshire line of the Heydons or Haydens.
David, eldest son of Simeon, had issue by his wife Margarette of a son Hugh, who married Alice Loverds and
had, among others, William, who married Isabel Moore and was succeeded by his eldest son Robert, who married
Cecily Culton and had William, who married Jane Warren and made his home at Baconsthorp, near the ancestral
seat in Norfolk County. He married Eleanor Winter and had an only son Henry.
Notes for ELIZABETH HAYDEN TAYLOR:
THE HAYDENS AND THEIR NAME
The name of Hayden is said to have derived from the town of Heydon, in the county of Norfolk, where
the family made it's home at an extremely early date. It is found on ancient records in the various forms of
Heydon, Hayden, Haiden, Heiden, Heyton, Haydens, and Hayden, of which the last is the most generally
accepted form of the name today.
The family is claimed by some authorities to have been of Norman extraction but this is not certain. One of
the earliest records of the family was of Thomas de Heydon, who was living at Heydon Hall and Manor in the
late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. He was justice itinerant of the county of Norfolk and was succeeded
by his eldest son William, who was the father of William de Heydon, his heir, and Judge John de Heydon of
Devonshire, the last of whom was the ancestor of the noted Devonshire branch of the family.
William, eldest son and heir of William, died about 1307 and was succeeded by his eldest son Simeon, who
was the father of David, his heir, and Sir Richard Heydon, who was killed in the wars with France about 1370
and was the ancestor of the Hertfordshire line of the Heydons or Haydens.
David, eldest son of Simeon, had issue by his wife Margarette of a son Hugh, who married Alice Loverds and
had, among others, William, who married Isabel Moore and was succeeded by his eldest son Robert, who
married Cecily Culton and had William, who married Jane Warren and made his home at Baconsthorp, near
the ancestral seat in Norfolk County. He married Eleanor Winter and had an only son Henry.
Notes for THOMAS HAYDEN TAYLOR, JR:
33

Cecily Culton and had William, who married Jane Warren and made his home at Baconsthorp, near the ancestral
seat in Norfolk County. He married Eleanor Winter and had an only son Henry.
Notes for LAURENCE DANIEL PREBLE:
[Master Preble-Owens Kin.FTW]
I'm the webmaster and family historian and have a strange mixture of eclectic interests: Computers, Video
Production and Editing, Running, Recumbent bicycling, Meditation, Holistic Health, Science Fiction, General
Aviation Flying, Flight Instruction, Hiking, Camping, electronic design, biofeedback, home schooling,
chiropractic, life enhancement and extension and a quest for learning. Lately, I've been learning German. Strange
mixture, eh? Maybe not. Jedenfalls, ist das Leben toll!. Wir haben schon vier Austauschschueler aus Deutschland
gehabt. Deswegen lerne ich Deutsch. Leider habe ich kein Deutsch in der Schuele gelernt. Nur zuhause von
Buechern, Kassetten, und natuerlich von unseren Austauchschuelern!
