A Word (or two) from the Con Man<br />
Another year done. It’s been crazy in a mostly good way.<br />
One of the challenges of running several cons a year is<br />
keeping them fresh and differentiating between them. It’s<br />
not easy, but I think we do a reasonably good job. A lot<br />
of people put in a lot of hard work to pull this show off,<br />
and it’s all volunteer — even the owners really don’t get<br />
paid and all of them are involved for the most part.<br />
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.<br />
There will be some changes coming, but rest assured<br />
we’re not going anywhere. As we get larger it allows us<br />
to try new things. This is a *good* thing. We’ll keep you<br />
posted.<br />
Price Increase in 2013<br />
One piece of bad news is that prices are going up next<br />
year. We don’t have much choice — our space rental costs<br />
doubled. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean we’re doubling<br />
prices, but prices will go up in the neighborhood of $10<br />
per badge for the weekend.<br />
However, this year’s prices are still available for this show<br />
only at the reg desk. After the show, the price increase<br />
will need to go into effect.<br />

Dedication<br />
One of the greatest successes we’ve had in recent years<br />
is bringing in new blood. I see more children and young<br />
adults now at these shows than I did just 5 years ago. This<br />
is critical for the future of the hobby!<br />
So I’d like to dedicate this show to the future of the<br />
hobby. When many of us are old and gray (oops, too<br />
late), they will be the ones keeping these shows and the<br />
hobby alive.<br />
I think we’re in good hands.<br />

We’re Moving!<br />
You might also note that we’re moving in 2014. We<br />
hadn’t planned on it so soon, but given the space rental<br />
increase, we really didn’t have much choice. That said,<br />
we’re growing at such a rate that the move was going to<br />
have to happen eventually. The Hilton is the largest hotel<br />
in the LAX area as far as convention space is concerned.<br />
It’s been a long time since we’ve been there (for those<br />
that were around back then, Origins 1989), but it will be<br />
nice to return.
