This archive includes:
•17-18 th Century Burney Collection Newspapers
The newspapers and news pamphlets gathered by the Reverend Charles Burney (1757 - 1817)
represent the largest single collection of 17th and 18th century English news media. The 700 or so
bound volumes of newspapers and news pamphlets were published mostly in London, however there
are also some English provincial, Irish and Scottish papers, and a few examples from the American
colonies, Europe and India.
•19 th Century British Library Newspapers
19th Century British Library Newspapers contains full runs of 48 influential national and regional
newspapers representing different political and cultural segments of the 19th century British society.

Index to Art and Design
The Index to Art & Design in Ireland was set-up in 1975 in the Art
& Design Library of the then Ulster Polytechnic. Press cuttings
are taken from the newspapers to which the library subscribes
and this electronic index has been developed by library staff to
provide a single, searchable resource to the cuttings collection
for those undertaking research into Art & Design in Ireland.

anywhere in Northern Ireland”.
British Library is a repository for both British and international
newspapers. To search the BL newspaper catalogue subset click

This collection of periodicals and newspapers dates from 1738. There
is a complete run of the Northern Star (1792-1797) the United
Irishmen’s newspaper. Many newspapers are held on microfilm.

The British Newspapers 1600 -1900 is another excellent resource for primary
material. Below are three examples of extracts over a 10 year period relating to
emigration from Ireland. The search strategy was emigration Ireland. These
terms are highlighted in the extracts
