From cheering on the rower.s, lo rejoicing in
The conundrum facing legislators is simple - niosl
For Canadians, though, il can't be that simple. And
this is the dilemina faced by legislaU)rs. Those saine
The go\einmcnl should establish a sciies ol clinics
ihroughoul ihe [iroxinee. These clinics would have as llicir
()rimary purpose ihe preservation ol life'.
Here's where il gets sticky. There would be, basically,
two reasons for allowing an abortio'n.ihe woman's physical
health was in danger or her mental stability was
ihrealencd. The clinic would be slalfed with nurses trained
in psychology, a psychiatrist and, of course, ;rdoctor.
The unsolved dileiiima, though, is who renders the
final decision. Does the medical staff rule the woman
Many; including [joliticians, arc advocating a
referendum on abortion. 1 would be interested to hear
how residents of Ouesnel feel on the issue.
Are Canadians divided, evenly, on the issue? Or is
there a clear preference lo one side?
kilometres that they had
driven from Skagway to Ouesnel,
Ouesnel was definitely
"the prettiest community
A telephone call from a
becoming more and more important
as tourism becomes a
By supporting city bcautification
if we continue to take
Where it was a rarity, and
something of a no^'clty to me,
to know a child in a family that
suffered from asthma, I find
myself with two such children
and knowing many more.
In light of the fact thai the
^COMMUNITY MINDED
"Call, Case."
A s A r g O Road
Maintenance celebrates its
first anniversary, that has become
a familiar refrain in the
Ouesnel area.
But not all the calls to
Argo general manager Case
Van Diemen are about the
roads in Cariboo North.
--You sec, since taking over
the road maintenance contract,
Case and the Argo crew
have developed a reputation
for being community-minded,
with a capital C.
Case has been a member
of the 1993 Northern B.C.
Winter Games organizing
committee and a director of
the Ouesnel and District
Chamber of Commerce. As
well, Argo has been a strong
supporter of Ouesnel Minor
Hockey, Ouesnel Liltle
Theatre, the Bob (jassoff
Memorial Dinner, the 1993
B.C. Northern Winter (3ames,
the Fall Fair and Billy Barker
Days.
As well. Case notes that
Argo management and employees
are active suppiirters
of local sports teams.
The obvious question is
why? Why expend so much
time and energy?
"It helps us to identify with
the community and helps the
community identify with us,"
explains Case.
"] want people to know I'm
around and that they can come
up and talk to me. I'm not
going to hide.
"Plus, there's nothing I like
more than hanging around the
ROAD MAINTENANCE INC
hockey rink."
^
But there's more lo Argo
than being com m u n i t y -
minded. They are enl rusted
with ensuring our roads are in
perfect working contlilion.
"I though it was a good
year," says Case, who c(mcedcs,
with a chuckle, that the
winter was relatively mild.
"I was quite pleased with
what happened."'
f»^ •VfiiS'fK'v^'Ki'sWY^As
Case adds Argn does more
than snow rcmcn-al; the summer
nu)iilhs can be e.Mremely
busy. Work to be done includes
dilch widening, installation
of culverls, brush removal,
mowing, garbage pick-up and
rest area maintenance.
What does the future hold?
Well,'Case says there are
no major changes inthe
works, just a continued devotion
to being the best.
