Geneva, 10 January 2011. Bordier & Cie, Private Bankers since 1844, obtains a
merchant banking licence in Singapore: Bordier & Cie (Singapore) Ltd. It will be
headed by Evrard Bordier, who became a partner on 1 January 2011. He will be the
first partner of a Geneva Private Bankers to move to Asia. Banking operations in
Singapore will begin as from 1 February 2011.
Bordier & Cie Private Bankers in Geneva since 1844 (“Bordier & Cie Geneva”) is
broadening its range of services and global network. This is a decision of strategic
importance, giving as it does the Bordier & Cie Group an opportunity to participate in the
exceptional economic growth of Asia which is set to continue in years to come.
Grégoire Bordier comments: “We are pursuing a long-term vision which aims to develop
and perpetuate our family business as an asset management group with an international
stature, but always on a human scale. By establishing Bordier & Cie in Singapore, we
believe that we now have the global structures needed to give our clients the services
they are entitled to expect of us”.
A new bank will be created in Singapore: Bordier & Cie (Singapore) Ltd (“Bordier & Cie
Singapore”). This establishment will be headed up by the brother of two of the present
partners of Bordier & Cie Geneva, Evrard Bordier. On 1 January 2011, he became a
partner of Bordier & Cie Geneva with unlimited liability. Aged 42 and a lawyer by training,
since 1999 he has managed and developed Bordier International Bank & Trust Ltd
(“BiBT”), a bank established on the Turks & Caicos Islands. Evrard Bordier will deploy his
asset management expertise and his experience in managing and developing a bank.
Evrard Bordier explains: “BiBT, which currently manages private clients’assets worth
more than half a billion Swiss francs, is to remain an independent bank and will become
an integral part of the Bordier Group. BiBT’s clients will be able to maintain their assets
on the Turks & Caicos Islands or benefit from the services provided in Singapore or
Geneva”.
Bordier & Cie –A simple strategy and a unique relationship of trust
Bordier & Cie provides a banking service and asset management facilities for its private
clients. The group has no other activity and does not wish to expand into other
professional areas. Bordier & Cie pursues a management philosophy focused on
transparency and liquidity –with the emphasis on individual stocks and shares rather
than on funds or structured products, together with outstanding personal service
combined with absolute discretion.
The evolution of background conditions in recent years has enabled Bordier & Cie to
provide a local service but within an international group: three affiliate companies (in
London - Berry Asset Management Plc, in Paris - Bordier & Cie (France) SA and in
Montevideo - Bordier & Cie (Uruguay) SA) - each time with important local structures -
as well as a bank in the Turks & Caïcos islands - BIBT.
Bordier & Cie Singapore will give its regional clients the benefit of the same services as
Bordier & Cie in Geneva.
Singapore –A crucial financial centre
Bordier & Cie has decided to establish its new bank in Singapore. This financial centre
has managed its growth with outstanding success. Independent from the major powers, it
has become a vital international wealth management platform.
Evrard Bordier comments: “Bordier & Cie was particularly attracted by the rigour of the
supervisory authorities, Singapore’s geographical position and unequivocal desire to
develop the financial centre in terms both of infrastructure and of essential talents.
Bordier & Cie intends to expand its Asian, Indian and Russian clientele on a long-term
basis from Singapore. In order to maximize the prospects for the success of our strategy,
we believed it was imperative for a member of the family and a partner with unlimited
liability to be present on site”.
Living up to our clients’expectations
Bordier & Cie’s decision also lives up to its clients’expectations. First and foremost,
Bordier & Cie must be closer to them, especially to those entrepreneurs who look to us in
Asia for the same local services from which they benefit in Geneva. The economic
development of China, India and other neighbouring countries has attracted a great
many SMBs which are relocating their activities and selling their products on the local
markets.
Furthermore, because of the growth potential of these regions, clients are increasingly
looking for expertise in the selection of equities and funds on the Asian markets. Last but
not least, the creation of Bordier & Cie in Singapore meets the need felt by certain clients
for access to global services in a context of evolving financial legislation and structural
weakness of the European States.
Bordier & Cie
serving the interests of its Swiss and international clients.
Bordier & Cie is one of the oldest private banking establishments in Switzerland.
At the same time, it is one of the most innovative and dynamic.
Over thirty wealth managers, highly qualified in many different fields, provide
privileged banking services for their clients. The group manages assets worth
