<strong>Nutrition</strong> checklist<br />
This checklist has been provided to help childcare providers see at a glance that <strong>the</strong>y are<br />
providing a healthy diet <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> children in <strong>the</strong>ir care. As <strong>the</strong>re is a great variation in <strong>the</strong><br />
number of meals and snacks that children receive while in childcare, <strong>the</strong> checklist covers<br />
meals and snacks provided over a full day - select <strong>the</strong> ones which are relevant to you.<br />
This can also be used, on its own or with a nutrition policy, to show parents what<br />
food/meals are provided, or as an agreement <strong>for</strong> an individual child which could include<br />
likes and dislikes or any o<strong>the</strong>r relevant in<strong>for</strong>mation about <strong>the</strong> child’s eating habits.<br />

Breakfast<br />
Bread or toast is always available.<br />
Cereals are always available (unsweetened<br />
breakfast cereals are preferred, eg<br />
porridge, Weetabix, Cornflakes, Rice<br />
Krispies).<br />
Suitable choices are provided <strong>for</strong> babies<br />
and infants.<br />
Midday meal<br />
One portion of food from <strong>the</strong> meat, fish and<br />
alternatives group is provided.<br />
At least one portion from <strong>the</strong> fruit and<br />
vegetable group is provided.<br />
At least one portion is provided from <strong>the</strong><br />
bread, cereals and potatoes group.<br />
Desserts are based on fruit and/or milk.<br />
