Huwil’s introduction of the “Duo” fitting in 1999 marks an important
historical milestone for the lift opening of cabinet
doors. The fitting’s new product philosophy and modern design
garnered worldwide attention and it continues to enjoy
wide international acceptance. Since 2009 this Häfele fitting is part of the
hardware specialists’ “Lift + Turn” product assortments.
The classic “Duo” is a very successful multifunc -
tional representative for a range of applications in this
branded family of flap fittings. Häfele has updated the
fitting with an attractive new appearance and multiple
new technical improvements to address modern design expecta -
tions and perfect its movements. With its fittings “Duo” and “Maxi” Häfele
covers the most common weight ranges for flap fittings and with the
strongest version of “Maxi”, the installation of two fittings in a 300 mm
high cabinet, can achieve a load bearing
ca pacity of 50 kg.

volume assembly. Adaptations of function and technology as well as
specific connections are possible.
The “Duo standard” and the “Duo forte” fittings used in wooden flaps
or flaps with aluminium frames stand out for their versatility. This cleverly
engineered system makes it possible to use the fitting in furniture as lid
stays or as flap stays in bar cabinets simply by adjusting the fitting.
“Duo” flap fittings are typically used in combination with a standard
110 degree concealed hinge with or without dampening. They have preset
screw positions for mounting brackets for 75, 90 and 110 degree opening
angles. Push-to-open functionality combined with handle-less fronts is also
achievable. In addition these fittings feature a multi position stop and
damp ening action which is adjustable to the individual flap weight by a
central screw. As a result, “Duo” can be adjusted to hold the flap securely
in any position or to gently close the door flap. The two “Duo” versions
vary in size and load capacity. The “Duo Standard” is suitable for cabinets

of a maximum height of 500 mm while “Duo Forte” is rated for up to
600 mm. Both versions are available in nickel, silver pearl matt, black
chrome plated and are supplied with a variety of special mounting brackets
to connect to different profiles. It is available as a complete kit or as an
individual part in industrial quantities.
“Maxi” for heavy weights and push–to-open functionality
All the advantages of the “Duo” series also apply to the “Maxi” flap fitting.
“Duo’s” big brother effortlessly opens and closes very heavy and
wide furniture flaps and is available in four weight classifications. All feature
a spring-loaded mechanism that supports the opening of doors and,
thanks to a multi-position stop, holds any door in the desired position.
They are true work horses and are tested for 60,000 opening and closing
cycles, just like all other “Lift + Turn” assortment flap door fittings that
are produced in-house.
In addition, the contemporary “Maxi” features a special mounting position
and is equipped with a push-to-open mechanism that can be used
as a functional component in handle-less door applications.
An additional benefit: “Maxi” is extremely versatile and suitable for
different functions:
Depending on the installation dampened or undampened versions are
possible with or without push-to-open mechanisms. But “Maxi” offers its
users another application area: Under the name “Maxi-up” it can be used
as a chest fitting. All the features of the fitting can be applied to chest
lids. An optional add-on damper that is used instead of the regular
brackets lends this fitting additional comfort in form of the perfect softclosing
action.
Important for furniture manufacturers: “Duo” and “Maxi” are very cost
effective in mass production because even multiple flap functions can be
accomplished with just one fitting. Thanks to separate mounting brackets,
both models can be used in left and right sided applications. A one sided
application is also an option if the flap weight is within the defined
weight classification. In addition, both versions offer simple, tool free clip
attachment to the pre-mounted brackets based on the 32 mm system.
“Duo standard” and “Duo forte” can be used
as flap stays or lid stays by simply adjusting
the fitting.
