2. Double Degree Programme <strong>in</strong> Mathematics and Information Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />
This Double Degree Programme is jo<strong>in</strong>tly <strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Mathematics and <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Information Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. Please refer <strong>to</strong><br />
Double Degree Programme <strong>in</strong> Mathematics and Information Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g for<br />
details about this programme.<br />
The Second Degree awarded by the Double Degree Programme is Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />
Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Information Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. The four required courses for this<br />
degree <strong>in</strong>clude ENGG2013, ELEG1110, IERG1001 and 1810, which <strong>to</strong>gether<br />
account for 9 units. Students <strong>in</strong> the Double Degree Programme are granted the<br />
exemption <strong>of</strong> substitut<strong>in</strong>g these 9 units, as a whole, with a pass <strong>in</strong> each <strong>of</strong><br />
MATH1030, 2010 and 2020 <strong>in</strong> fulfill<strong>in</strong>g the requirements for Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />
Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Information Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. The exemption rema<strong>in</strong>s granted <strong>in</strong><br />
case that a student is transferred from the Double Degree Programme <strong>to</strong> the<br />
Programme <strong>of</strong> Information Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
3. M<strong>in</strong>or Programme<br />
Two streams <strong>of</strong> study are available:<br />
I. Telecommunications<br />
The stream focuses on the fundamental pr<strong>in</strong>ciples, architectures, design, analysis, and<br />
practices <strong>of</strong> telecommunications and network<strong>in</strong>g system. This stream is suitable for<br />
<strong>students</strong> with <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong> the theory <strong>of</strong> and applications <strong>of</strong> mathematics <strong>to</strong> the study <strong>of</strong><br />
telecommunications systems.<br />

<strong>students</strong> with <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong> computer networks, Internet s<strong>of</strong>tware development and systems<br />
design.<br />

Recommended Study Pattern (for S6 Entrants)*^<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g recommended study pattern assumed: (i) student <strong>to</strong> complete both<br />
degrees <strong>in</strong> 4 years; (ii) student opts <strong>to</strong> take SEEM3490 <strong>to</strong> exempt DSME2050; (iii)<br />
student opts <strong>to</strong> use 6 units <strong>of</strong> courses taken as part <strong>of</strong> the IBBA programme <strong>to</strong> fulfil the
IERG Non-Core Electives requirement; (iv) student opts <strong>to</strong> take ELTU31<strong>12</strong> and<br />
CHLT1510 <strong>to</strong> fulfil the language requirements <strong>of</strong> both the Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Faculty and the<br />
BA Faculty, i.e., us<strong>in</strong>g ELTU31<strong>12</strong> and CHLT1510 <strong>to</strong> fulfil ELTU3110 and CHLT1660<br />
