Original Magic Lantern with 175 Glass Slides
Set of 175 glass Magic Lantern Slides. Photographs taken between 1869 and 1911 by a
missionary couple who were sent to Northern India during British colonial rule, shortly after the
Indian Rebellion of 1857. Some images are black and white, others are sepia; the majority are
labeled in manuscript. Each glass slide measures approximately 3.25 x 3.25 inches. Expected
occasional wear to slides, otherwise the set is in very good and original condition, contained in
three wood boxes. Together with an original magic lantern in its original metal case with
working clasp and leather handle. Very good and original condition, beautifully preserved.
Together with a large folding colour map of India with Index showing place names, published
in 1891, folded into publisher's original blue boards, also very good. Map measures 39 x 32 inches.
The lot contained in a wooden chest measuring 15 x 28 x 14 inches.
