As well-respected business leaders, Charles and Annie, along <strong>with</strong> his<br />
parents, were a part of <strong>the</strong> Milwaukee society and were often mentioned in <strong>the</strong><br />
personal columns for <strong>the</strong> parties <strong>the</strong>y attended or had thrown, often providing<br />
<strong>the</strong> decorations. The families were also part of many clubs and societies.<br />
Across his lifetime, C.B. alone was active in <strong>the</strong> Masonic Organization, City<br />
Club, Isaac Walton League, National Geographic, National Civic Association,<br />
State Historical Society, American Institute of Park Executives, Milwaukee<br />
School Board, and <strong>the</strong> School of Agriculture. 157 Annie Whitn<strong>all</strong> would become<br />
active in Milwaukee Public schools and be elected to <strong>the</strong> Milwaukee Board<br />
herself in <strong>the</strong> early 1900s. 158 In 1895, Charles, Annie, and Uncle William,<br />
became founding members of <strong>the</strong> Milwaukee Ethical Society whose purpose<br />
was to “develop <strong>the</strong> best intentions of <strong>the</strong> human mind <strong>with</strong> intelligent study<br />
and investigation.” 159 Whitn<strong>all</strong> and his uncle would also join <strong>the</strong> Men’s Club,<br />
