After the concrete laid and begun to harden i.e. about 2 hours after its laying it<br />

shall be protected with moist gunny begs. After 24 hours <strong>of</strong> laying the concrete<br />

the surface shall be cured by flooding with water for a minimum period <strong>of</strong> 7 to<br />

10 days or as directed.<br />

3. BRICK WORK<br />

The bricks shall be adequately soaked in stacks before use with clean water at<br />

regular intervals to keep them wet.<br />

The brick shall be laid in English bond unless otherwise specified. Half or cut<br />

bricks shall not be used except where necessary to complete the bond. The<br />

brickwork shall be done in cement mortar <strong>of</strong> ratio 1:4 (1 cement: 4 coarse<br />

sand). A layer <strong>of</strong> mortar shall be spread on full width <strong>of</strong> wall and each brick<br />

shall be properly bedded and set in position by gently tapping. All vertical<br />

joints shall be fully filled with mortar.<br />

The wall shall be taken up truly plumb and it shall be truly horizontal &<br />

vertical to the ground level. The thickness <strong>of</strong> joints shall not exceed ½”<br />

In case <strong>of</strong> old brick work, the old brick work shall be toothed to the full width <strong>of</strong><br />

new wall and to the depth <strong>of</strong> quarter <strong>of</strong> a brick in alternate courses. It shall be<br />

cleaned <strong>of</strong> all dust, loose mortar etc and thoroughly wetted before work shall be<br />

make equal to the thickness <strong>of</strong> the corresponding course <strong>of</strong> the old work by<br />

adjusting thickness <strong>of</strong> horizontal mortar joints.<br />

4. ROUGH CAST/SPECKLED PLASTER<br />

Rough cast/speckled finish comprises <strong>of</strong> a mixture <strong>of</strong> sand and gravel in<br />

specified proportions dashed over a freshly plastered surface. Before applying<br />

plaster, the joints shall be raked out, dust and loose mortars shall be brushed<br />

out, and the surface shall be thoroughly washed with water, cleaned and kept<br />

wet before plastering is commenced.<br />

The under layer shall be <strong>of</strong> 1: 3 ratio and top layer shall consists <strong>of</strong> mixture <strong>of</strong><br />

cement and marble chips <strong>of</strong> size # 0 to # 2 as specified in the ratio <strong>of</strong> 1: 1 (1<br />

cement: 1 marble chips).<br />

5. REPAIR OF PLASTER<br />

The work includes cutting the patch and preparing the wall surface. The<br />

mortar <strong>of</strong> the patch, which has cracked, crumbled or sounds hollow shall be<br />

gently tapped and removed. The patch shall be tried to cut to a square or<br />

rectangular shape. The masonry joints, which become exposed after removal,<br />

<strong>of</strong> old plaster shall be raked out to a minimum depth <strong>of</strong> ½”. The surface shall<br />

then be thoroughly washed with water and kept wet till plastering is<br />

commenced.<br />
