The survey measured developmental assets, which are the positive values, skills, relationships and experiences that help young people grow up to be healthy, caring and responsible adults. What did the survey reveal about how Palo Alto kids perceive the support they receive from their community? How can we as parents start to affect these Developmental Assets for our children in elementary school? What are concrete ways we can give our children the support they need through instilling positive values, constructive use of time, clear boundaries, social competencies, a commitment to learning and more? Come find out how Palo Alto youth are doing and how you can make a difference. Addison in Wonderland! Hello Addison! It is very exciting to hear everyone talking about the auction, Addison in Wonderland! From costumes to donation ideas, you are all over it!!!! Below are some important reminders and deadlines for you to be aware of: We are taking donations now and anything goes!!!! Please pick up and complete a donation form in the office. All donations are due by September 21st. If you need ideas, send us an email, we have a ton of ideas! Auction Tickets are on sale now through October 8th for $25/person or at the door for $30/person, don't miss out on the discount...buy them now! Auction meetings start this week and are every Wednesday at 7:30pm at the Sid's home, 554 Hawthorne Ave. If you are dying to let out your creative juices or need a night out...please come, everyone is welcome!
3 of 6 More to come... Corrie and Hilary Lice Patrol - Volunteers Needed Immediately! Would you like to volunteer for an important job at Addison? Would it help to know that it only requires 3.5 hours of your time over the course of the school year? And, is it nice to know that giving said time for said job means being appreciated SO VERY much? Well then, Lice Patrol is the volunteer opportunity for you! It's a great way to get to know all the kids in your child's class. It happens during the hour right before your child's pick-up time. All materials are provided. You just have to attend one training, and 3 check times. That's it! The dates required are: September 7 (8:30 training, then one hour before pick-up), and January 11th and April 12th (one hour before pick-up). Contact Kristy Frey, the lice patrol coordinator, if you are ready, willing, and able to help with this important task. Support Our Kids and Addison Through PiE Because of huge state budget uncertainties, Partners in Education (PiE) is looking to have its biggest Back to School ever, with a challenge grant that will match EVERY DOLLAR GIVEN through September 7, up to a total of $300,000. Please make a gift today to PiE! Your donation will enhance your child's experience at Addison by funding a variety of enrichment and support programs that affect them every day. Our suggested gift is $800 per child, but any amount that is meaningful to your family, higher or lower, will be appreciated. You can donate online at www.papie.org/donate. Bringing Up Bicyclists Bringing Up Bicyclists Class Tuesday, September 25, 7-8:30pm Who's it for: Parents of children in grades K-3 (this is an adult event) Where: Addison MP Room Every other year, Addison PTA brings this class to the Addison community. This class teaches parents how to begin street cycling with their children, whether or not you intend to commute to school by bicycle. It also offers safety and equipment information. The class is taught by a qualified instructor from the League of American Bicyclists. Please do not bring bikes.
