Call to promote peaceful
co-existence among all
Adviser to Saudi King begins visit
MUSCAT — Prince Dr Bandar bin
Salman bin Mohammed al Saud, Adviser
to the Custodian of the Two
Holy Mosques, Head of the Saudi Arbitration
Team and Honorary President
of the GCC Commercial Arbitration
Centre, arrived here yesterday
on a several day visit to the Sultanate.
He was received upon arrival by
Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al
Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, Khalil
bin Abdullah al Khonji, Chairman of
Oman Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (OCCI), and Abdulaziz bin
Sulaiman al Turky, Ambassador of
Saudi Arabia to the Sultanate.

The symposium concluded that
Islam calls for balanced co-existence
and equality and also addressed the
current crisis with appropriate means
and thoughts as this is the only way to
get out of the world cultural crisis.
The symposium also recommended
a study on the position of Islamic
jurisprudence compared with rules
in contemporary international law
to highlight the progress reached by
Islamic jurisprudence in shaping the
rules of international law.
The event organisers also decided
to bring out a “Dictionary of Islamic
Jurisprudence Heritage”.
The symposium, organised by the
Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs,
recommended that such events
on peaceful co-existence must be organised
every year and everywhere.
The symposium attended by delegates,
including researchers, scholars
and jurists from 150 countries, was a
huge success.
Islam unequivocally advocates mutual
respect, human dignity and fair
play in the relationship among all and
calls for dialogue among civilisations.
Speakers said Quranic values advocate
unity of the human origin, and
advise all to uphold human dignity
and equality.
All the eight Schools of Thoughts
in Islam, namely Hanai, Maliki, Shaii,
Hambali, Al Jaafari, Ibadhis, Al Zidi
and Al Dhahiri advocate peaceful coexistence
and uphold the importance
of human dignity, mutual respect and
fair dealings with all human beings
irrespective of their colour, caste,
creed, race or culture because the
Muslim Ummah is one, its doctrine
is one and its holy book and Prophet

MUSCAT — Participants in
the 12th Symposium on Development
of Jurisprudence
(Fiqh) Sciences, titled "Jurisprudence
Doctrines and Contemporary
Experiences," have
sent a cable of thanks and appreciation
to His Majesty Sultan
Qaboos at the end of their
symposium here yesterday.
They expressed their sincere
appreciation for His
Majesty the Sultan’s attention
for every work that renews
religious and cultural understanding
among nations and
contributes to global stability,
unity, peace and progress.
The conferees afirmed
that the convening of such
symposia in the Sultanate
have opened new vistas of
knowledge about various issues
of concern to citizens.
They prayed to the Almighty
to protect His Majesty under
His divine care and endow
Oman and the Islamic world
with continuous progress and

Dr Mustapha Taseeresh in his paper
on “The Concept of Pledge and
Security in Islam”, said it is noteworthy
that Islam unlike Judaism, Christianity
and Buddhism, derives its
name not from the name of a person
but from the concept of peace and security,
and a such Islam is the faith of
peace, security and pledge and peaceful
co-existence is the very essence of
Islam.
Motaz al Khatib, visiting fellow at
the Berlin-based research platform
Forum Transregionale Studien, told
the Observer that the symposium
was very important both in terms of
its very timely theme on peaceful coexistence
and the papers contributed
by scholars.
The gathering of experts from 150
countries was a good networking
opportunity and a unique platform
to exchange ideas among people at
a time when Islamic awakening is
sweeping the world and better understanding
of the religion is the need
of the hour.
The speakers emphasised that Islam
believes in the common and single
origin of humanity and this gives
rise to the concept of universal human
family which needs mutual respect,
dignity and justice for progress
and pace.
All human beings are the children
of Adam. So, all human beings must
be treated with honour, respect and
regard, without distinction of any
kind.
Scholars from different parts of the
world and varied schools of thought
attended the symposium and con-
irmed that Islamic jurisprudence is
all for peaceful co-existence among
people in light of the Quran and the
Sunnah, as well as the rest of sources
of Islamic legislation.
Religious tolerance expo opens in US
RHODE ISLAND — The Religious
Tolerance in Oman
Exhibition was opened in
the city of Rhode Island in
the US. The exhibition is
organised by the Ministry
of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
Hanena bint Sultan al
Mughairiyah, Sultanate's
Ambassador to the USA, a
number of oficials of the
city of Rhode Island and
the delegation of the Ministry
of Awqaf and Religious
Affairs took part in the ceremony,
which was held at
the Salve Regina University.
Dr Mohammed bin Said
al Ma'amari, Scientiic Adviser
at the Ofice of Minister
of Awqaf and Religious
Affairs, gave a speech during
which he said that organising
this exhibition in
the US comes within the
efforts being exerted by
the Sultanate to disseminate
the culture of understanding,
moderation and
transferring the Sultanate's
experience to the nations,
as well as urging them to
rise above hate. It also aims
at highlighting role of the
Omani woman.
Al Mughairiyah in her
speech during said the
Sultanate and the USA are
bound by strong relations
in various spheres, pointing
out that the Sultanate, since
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos's
accession to the throne, accorded
a great attention to
open new horizons with
different countries and disseminating
peace and values
of Islam.
She added that this exhibition
opens new avenues
for the religious tolerance
and dialogue, as well as coexistence
as it conveys the
Sultanate's experience in
the ield of religious tolerance.
The exhibition will also
be held in various US cities.
