ory Christensen and the American ladies finished a tough week at
the 2012 World Junior Championships at Z-Hallen in Ostersund,
Sweden, with a 7-4
loss to Italy’s Federica
Apollonio rink in the
round robin finale to finish the
week 0-9, but they took the
opportunity to represent the U.S.
as a great learning experience as
the young team continues to
develop on the world scene.
“It’s definitely been worth the
trip. We’ve learned so much
through every game. We’ve been
taping all the games and taking
stats, so we’ve learned a lot
already,” Christensen said. “We’re
definitely more motivated than
when we arrived. I’m ready for
next year.”
Christensen (Duluth, Minn.),
17, who was the youngest skip in
the women’s field, and teammates
Elizabeth Busche (Duluth, Minn.),
Anna Bauman (Duluth, Minn.),
Sonja Bauman (Duluth, Minn.) and
Becca Funk (McFarland, Wis.) finished
the event in 10th place in
their first trip to the World Juniors.
Scotland went on to win its second
straight junior women’s title
and fifth since 2007 by defeating
the Czech Republic, 6-5. In the
bronze-medal game, Russia got
past Sweden, 7-4, to reach the
podium.
The 2013 World Junior
Championships will be the test
event for the 2014 Olympic Winter
Games. The World Juniors are set
for Feb. 28-March 10 at the
Olympic venue. Team USA will be
selected at the 2013 USA Curling
Junior National Championships, Jan.
26-Feb. 2 at the Broomstones
Curling Club in Wayland, Mass.
