S-999 Independent Study (Seidel) “An exploration of how the capacity to listen and tell<br />

stories can be used to create the conditions that support democratic learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

environments. I'm look<strong>in</strong>g at sem<strong>in</strong>al educational theorists - Vygotsky, Dewey, Freire -<br />

some great th<strong>in</strong>kers/writers - R<strong>in</strong>aldi, Benjam<strong>in</strong>, Zipes (even DeTocqueville, who I<br />

haven't thought of s<strong>in</strong>ce AP history) - and research - like Project Zero's Storywork Project<br />

as well as Dimensions of Understand<strong>in</strong>g and Teach<strong>in</strong>g for Understand<strong>in</strong>g. Specifically,<br />

I'm present<strong>in</strong>g listen<strong>in</strong>g as an underdeveloped capacity <strong>in</strong> democratic learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

environments and try<strong>in</strong>g to suggest models for both understand<strong>in</strong>g and build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

listen<strong>in</strong>g.”<br />

“For my f<strong>in</strong>al project <strong>in</strong> T-203 I created an audio curriculum focused on develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the audio arts—creat<strong>in</strong>g sound pieces, advertisements and audio art—and us<strong>in</strong>g this<br />
