St. Francis High School Teacher<br />
Crowned National Cherry Queen<br />
Congratulations to Miss Maria LaCross, who was crowned <strong>the</strong> 2010 National Cherry<br />
Queen on July 9th. Miss LaCross was hired in May to be part of <strong>the</strong> St. Francis English<br />
Department. She is a 2004 Glen Lake High School graduate and graduated from<br />
Michigan State in 2008. She has previously taught in Dubai at <strong>the</strong> American Academy<br />
for Girls. Royalty runs in <strong>the</strong> family, as Miss LaCross’ aunt is GTACS Admissions Director,<br />
Cindy (Pleva) Weber, who was <strong>the</strong> 1987 National Cherry Queen!<br />

Holy Angels Float Wins<br />
Judges’ Favorite!<br />
The Holy Angels float depicting Frankenmuth<br />
won “Judges’ Favorite” in <strong>the</strong> Junior Royale<br />
Children’s Parade! Each local <strong>school</strong> was invited<br />
to build a float based on <strong>the</strong> parade <strong>the</strong>me of<br />
“Awesomely Awesome Cities of Michigan.”<br />

STATE CHAMPIONS<br />
During <strong>the</strong> past year, St. Francis<br />
High School celebrated state<br />
champions in <strong>the</strong> following sports:<br />
The #3 varsity doubles tennis team<br />
of Stephen Siddall and Keith Gingras<br />
won <strong>the</strong> state championship in fall<br />
2010. This is a second year in a<br />
row that St. Francis has had state<br />
champions in<br />
boys tennis.<br />
Bishop Bernard Hebda was <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> Marshal of <strong>the</strong> Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade<br />
in March 2010. He was led by <strong>the</strong> St. Francis Marching Band.<br />
SEAS Student named Michigan<br />
Geographic Bee Semifinalist<br />
The National Geographic Society has named St. Elizabeth<br />
Ann Seton 8th grader Brian Will as a semifinalist in <strong>the</strong><br />
2011 Michigan Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and<br />
Plum Creek. Brian was <strong>the</strong> <strong>school</strong> finalist which qualified him<br />
to take a test to submit to <strong>the</strong> National Geographic Society.<br />
The students with <strong>the</strong> <strong>top</strong> 100 scores are invited to compete at<br />
<strong>the</strong> state level. The Michigan Geographic Bee will be at Western<br />
Michigan University in April. The state winner will earn a trip<br />
to Washington, D.C. to represent <strong>the</strong> state of Michigan in<br />
<strong>the</strong> national finals to be held in May. Best wishes to Brian!<br />
SF Junior, Isaiah Schaub, won <strong>the</strong><br />
State Championship in wrestling for<br />
<strong>the</strong> 130 lbs. weight class in March<br />
2011 at <strong>the</strong> Palace in Auburn Hills.<br />
He is only <strong>the</strong> second state wrestling<br />
champion in <strong>the</strong> history of St. Francis.<br />
