About <strong>Gumala</strong><br />
<strong>Gumala</strong> Aboriginal Corporation (GAC), one of Australia’s largest indigenous corporations, is an<br />
alliance of three language groups in the Pilbara area of Western Australia. GAC was created in<br />
1996 to negotiate the settlement of a Land Use Agreement between Hamersley Iron (part of<br />
Rio Tinto Iron Ore) and the Banyjima Innawonga and Nyiyaparli people, the Traditional<br />
Owners of the country at the centre of Hamersley’s Yandi iron ore mining operation.<br />
The Yandi Agreement ensures that Hamersley Iron will deliver benefits to the Traditional<br />
Owners for the life of the mine including:<br />
• a significant income stream (royalties)<br />
• training and employment;<br />
• support for pastoral station operations;<br />
• heritage protection work;<br />
• in-kind assistance for community development<br />
The General <strong>Gumala</strong> Foundation was established as a public benevolent institution with the<br />
objectives for the relief of poverty, sickness, suffering, distress, misfortune or destitution of<br />
the Traditional Owners.<br />
<strong>Gumala</strong> Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) is the Manager of the General <strong>Gumala</strong> Foundation while<br />
<strong>Gumala</strong> Investments Pty Ltd (GIPL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of GAC and was incorporated<br />
for the sole purpose of acting as Trustee of the General <strong>Gumala</strong> Foundation.<br />
GAC is also the sole shareholder of <strong>Gumala</strong> Enterprises Pty Ltd (GEPL), a separate body<br />
established to oversee the development and growth of discrete business enterprises to<br />
enable further benefits as a result of these businesses are passed down to the membership of<br />
GAC.<br />

Role statement<br />
The <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Receptionist</strong> represents the business in a professional and friendly way, receiving<br />
and welcoming guests, and answering telephone calls. The position ensures that reception<br />
runs efficiently and that all reception duties are attended to.<br />
Duties and Responsibilities<br />
The <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Receptionist</strong> is responsible for:<br />
• Coordinating the activities of the Reception team;<br />
• Ensuring that all telephone calls are dealt with in a professional and courteous<br />
manner and that all visitors to the GAC Office are attended to appropriately.<br />
• Keeping up to date with programmes provided by the Member Services Team<br />
in order to advise Members and direct enquiries accordingly;<br />
• Maintaining the presentation of the Board room, the front office, entrance<br />
foyer, member’s area and staff area;<br />
• Ensuring all literature displayed for Member use is up to date and tidy;<br />
• Ensuring all incoming and outgoing mail is processed efficiently;<br />
• Arranging couriers;<br />
• Liaising with suppliers including coordinating ordering and distribution of all<br />
stationery requirements for GAC Perth staff on a weekly basis;<br />
• Organising morning teas and celebrations, including birthday cards;<br />
• Ensuring kitchens are kept clean and tidy and that the dishwasher is switched<br />
on each day;<br />
• Coordinating consumables for kitchens – milk, tea, coffee, sugar;<br />
• Checking the requirements of printers on a regular basis and calling service<br />
personnel as needed;<br />
• Ensuring compliance with all GAC policies, procedures and guidelines and<br />
relaying information to the Services & Facilities Manager to formulate relevant<br />
policies, procedures and guidelines;<br />
• Ensuring all records are kept in a manner that can be easily retrieved, reviewed<br />
and made available to the CEO and/or his/her delegate and relevant agencies;<br />
• Providing administrative support to other staff members as required and as<br />
directed by the CEO and/or his/her delegate; and<br />
• Undertaking other duties as directed by the Services & Facilities Manager.<br />
Health & Safety<br />
As part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also expected to:<br />
• Take reasonable care for your own health and safety,<br />
• Take reasonable care that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the<br />
health and safety of other persons, and<br />
• Comply, so far as you are reasonably able with any reasonable instruction given<br />
by GAC to allow the corporation to comply with the WHS Act, and<br />

• Cooperate with any reasonable policy or procedure of GAC which relates to<br />
work health or safety and that has been notified to workers.<br />
• If you are involved in, or witness an incident in the workplace, it needs to be<br />
reported to your manager as soon as possible after it occurs.<br />
• Make sure you are familiar with the procedures in your workplace that outline<br />
the actions you should take when reporting an incident.<br />

Selection Criteria<br />
The <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Receptionist</strong> will require the following:<br />
Experience<br />
• Several years’ experience in a similar role<br />
• Previous exposure to working with Indigenous people is desirable<br />

• Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks;<br />
• Ability to work in a busy and changing environment;<br />
• Excellent telephone manner and personal presentation;<br />

within a group context;<br />
• Ability to provide leadership and direction to the Reception Services Team;<br />
• Ability to mentor junior staff.<br />

Word, Excel and Outlook;<br />
• Exceptional communication skills – written and verbal;<br />
