Children’s Miracle Network ® (CMN)
supporters in the Tri-state Region
donated an amazing $1,000,050
during CMN Celebration 2008 in
June. The annual celebration inspires
thousands of gifts donated by individuals,
community organizations,
corporations and foundations.
CMN Celebration was broadcasted
live from the lobby of Gundersen
Lutheran. WXOW-19 news anchor
Amy DuPont, sports director Scott
Emerich and WQOW-18 meteorologist
LeAnn Lombardo motivated
viewers to help support this worthy cause during
the daylong broadcast on June 1. They encouraged
new Monthly Giving Club members and
challenged viewers to “Fill the Fifties” throughout
the day. Phone bank volunteers got into the spirit
and encouraged viewers to call in with their support.
A chance to win a $1,000 travel voucher,
compliments of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, operated
by Goli’s Avenues of Travel, was given as an
incentive to join the Monthly Giving Club. The
winner was Patricia Miller from Stoddard.
Each year, we share stories about lives touched
through generous donations…stories about challenges,
courage and triumph. Many of those stories
are miracles, filled with hope for a healthy,
happy future. This year you met some special
champions, Cady, Sean, Carson, Alexsis,
Elizabeth and Kathryn whose lives were touched
by your generosity and will be changed forever
from this experience. Through these stories and
so many more, viewers get a glimpse of how our
community benefits from your support to CMN.

Corinne Bauer estate gifts CMN
more than $120,000
Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) recently received a
generous estate gift of more than $120,000 from the late
Corinne Bertha (Foster) Bauer of Onalaska, Wis. She passed
away a year ago at the age of 90.
Her generous gift will be placed in a permanent endowment for
Children’s Miracle Network. Estate gifts such as these provide
living legacies by ensuring children’s needs are met into the
future.
Gail Preidel, Ms. Bauer’s niece, shares, “Corinne was a true
advocate of children and was adamant about giving to
Children’s Miracle Network because she knew the money
would stay locally to help kids in our community.”
Corinne Bauer was born in La Crosse on May 24, 1917, to
Asa A. and Bertha (Hardie) Foster. She married Ernest A. Bauer
on Dec. 14, 1940, in Milwaukee. She was employed by the
Milwaukee Railroad for many years, retiring in 1975. She was a
member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Crosse and also
was a member of the Onalaska Order of the Eastern Star and a
charter member of the Onalaska Area Historical Society.
The simplest and most popular method to remember CMN is
by planning and making a bequest in your will. Naming CMN
as the beneficiary of charitable gift annuities, life insurance,
retirement assets, appreciated stock, real estate and charitable
remainder trusts, can be valuable both to the donor and to the
future of CMN. For more information on how you can plan a

Making miracles for children and families
New CMN brochure available
When a child has a special medical condition, families need all of the support they
can get. Thousands of families in the Tri-state Region have recieved the help they
need from Children’s Miracle Network ® (CMN), a service of Gundersen Lutheran
Medical Foundation.
One hundred percent of CMN funds stay local to support families, pediatric
programs, capital campaign initiatives, life-saving equipment and services that
otherwise may not be available.
A new updated brochure provides our mission and services, personal family
stories and options on how individuals and businesses can contribute to make a
difference.

Golf tournaments
‘fore’ CMN
This summer, many local and national sponsors hosted golf tournaments
to benefit Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). These tournaments continue
to score big with participants and the children and families who
benefit from the money they raise.
• Crescent Printing Golf Classic raised $11,000.
• 9th Annual Kristin Lily Newman Foundation brought in $3,530.
• 23rd Annual Miracle Open-Hosted by the 7 Rivers Region of Credit
Unions collected $11,100 and another $10,000 was matched and
donated by Co-op Financial Services.
• Miss Arcadia Golf Tournament (in conjunction with Miss America
Organization) raised $4,800.
• 17th Annual ACE Hardware Golf Outing garnered $4,247.
• Thompson Animal Medical Center Doggone tournament will be
held Oct. 4 at Drugan’s Castle Mound Golf Course.

Blizzards ® hit our area on Aug. 7
Blizzards ® were in the forecast—despite
sunny summer skies—and the people
in our area didn’t mind one bit! On
Thursday, August 7, participating
Dairy Queen ® and DQ Grill & Chill ®
locations celebrated the third-annual
Miracle Treat Day by donating proceeds
from the sales of their popular
Blizzard to Children’s Miracle Network
(CMN).
Dairy Queen has been a supporter of
CMN since 1984, raising more than
$70 million. Dairy Queen served up a
variety of Blizzard Flavor Treats during
Miracle Treat Day, including Oreo ® ,
the August Blizzard of the Month. The
Oreo Blizzard debuted in 1985, the
Blizzard’s inaugural year, and to this
day it remains the most popular flavor.

and Country Stores
Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores
made miracles for kids during their 10th
anniversary campaign.
Love’s has been a proud supporter of
Children’s Miracle Network for nine
consecutive years. Along with our customers
we have raised more than $1.5 million to
help support children’s hospitals across the
country that are affiliated with the
Children’s Miracle Network. Through in
store fundraisers during the month of
September, we are able to help children in
every community we are located.

CMN Radiothon hits the airwaves,
Oct. 16-18
Children’s Miracle Network ® (CMN), CC106.3, Eagle 102.7,
Magic 105 and Foresters* are teaming up to bring you
Radiothon 2008.
Radiothon is a fun, emotionally charged and invigorating threeday
fundraising event. Families who have benefited from CMN
share their incredible, heart-warming stories set to music and
told by moms, dads and even the kids themselves. These kids
and their families will touch your heart with their powerful
stories of hope and courage.
“La Crosse Radio Group staff is just as excited about Radiothon
2008 as they were with the first one six years ago. Their
dedication to this effort is evidenced by Radiothon’s success to
the tune of $257,128 in five years,” says Jean Sterling, CMN
regional events specialist. “We are grateful for their continued
partnership.”
Radiothon is more than just raising money. It brings a great
awareness of CMN. Each year funds raised through Radiothon
directly benefit area families by funding in-home medical
equipment and services, local and regional programs, and
improved pediatric and neonatal care. Money raised pay for
those “extras” not covered by insurance.
Tune into Eagle 102.7, Magic 105 and CC106.3 on Oct. 16,
17 and 18 for this inspirational event. Radiothon will be
broadcast live from the La Crosse Radio Group.
Operators wanted for CMN Radiothon
CMN is looking for phone bank operators for Radiothon 2008
on Thursday, Oct. 16 through Saturday, Oct. 18. As CMN
families tell their stories, listeners will be calling in pledges.
Your help is needed to take those pledges. Phone bank positions
will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 and 17 and
8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 18.

Did you know
Kohl’s continues its tradition of caring for children
‘Kohl’s Cares for Kids - Kohl’s Care Kollege’ at
Gundersen Lutheran provides educational programs
for childcare providers and parents throughout the
Tri-state Region. In 2008, Kohl’s awarded Gundersen
Lutheran Medical Foundation with a gift of $49,219
for the program. Since 2006, Kohl’s has donated
more than $157,000 to Gundersen Lutheran Medical
Foundation.
