Andy seemed to be improving with<br />

downhill and slalom races in <strong>the</strong><br />

Gatlneau <strong>Ski</strong> Zone championships t:><br />

gain possession of The Journal<br />

Trophy. He nosed out John Fripp<br />

in <strong>the</strong> downhill on <strong>the</strong> speedy King's<br />

Mountain run on Saturday and walked<br />

off with <strong>the</strong> slalom on .Sunday. How-<br />

of <strong>Gatineau</strong> <strong>Ski</strong> Zone and <strong>Ottawa</strong> ever, this was destined to be Andy's<br />

Dede Coulson topped <strong>the</strong> women's<br />

event.<br />

The next week-end was washed out<br />

due to poor conditions but on <strong>the</strong> following<br />

Saturday Claude Richer race"d<br />

to an eaBy victory in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gatineau</strong><br />

<strong>Ski</strong> Zone cross-country race.<br />

Andy Tommy scored· a decisive win<br />

in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ottawa</strong> <strong>Ski</strong> Cluh downhill and<br />

slalom championships. on Sunday to<br />

capture <strong>the</strong> Alex West Memorial<br />

Trophy, with bro<strong>the</strong>r Art placing<br />

second. Twelve-year-old Anne Heggtveit<br />

won top honors amongst <strong>the</strong><br />

women. If young Anne continues to<br />

improve, as she has been doing, ~:J.e<br />

will soon be forced to travel fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

afield to encounter stiffer competition.<br />
