Fiberglass Inner Tubes
Fiberglass Inner Tubes improve core quality, recovery and rig time
efficiency. The glazed bore provides low-friction core entry, especially
suitable for soft or fractured formations. The disposable fiberglass
tube also serves as packaging to the laboratory, which protects the core
from direct contact. There’s no need to transfer the core from inner
tubes to sample boxes.
FIBERGLASS ALLOWS
ON-SITE ANALYSIS
Fiberglass Inner Tubes do not block the core’s
natural gamma radiation. Halliburton is able to
provide its unique on-site core analysis using
its Core Gamma Logger and Plug Taker.
Rig time is reduced.
There’s no need to slip
core from a tube and
place it in boxes.
The core remains
in the disposable
fiberglass tube.
Rig floor safety is
improved, since it’s not
necessary to remove
a 30-ft core from
a tube, especially
troublesome if the core
becomes stuck.
Suitable for all
formations, especially
soft or fractured.
Improved recovery.
Ease of core entry reduces
jamming and core loss.
Recovery ratio (core
recovered per cut footage)
is higher, as is efficiency
ratio (core recovered
per length of total core
barrel run).
Fiberglass tubes are supplied in the same standard sizes as aluminum for interchangeability. Sizes are 2-5/8 in.,
4 in. and 5-1/4 in. They are made from a composite material of glass fiber filaments and epoxy resin that
doesn’t react with drilling fluids, acids, salt or core fluids.
APPLICATIONS
Fiberglass tubes are
an integral part of:
• Soft unconsolidated
formation
• PosiClose system
Fiberglass tubes can be
used in hole sizes 5-1/4 in.
to 12-1/4 in. Standard core
barrel can do rathole
coring in holes larger
than 12-1/4 in.
