Charlott-Maria Schürmann’s eyes sparkle when
she talks about Burlington FRH. “I have the
best horse in the world,” she said overjoyed after
having won the Nürnberger Burgpokal last December.
At 20-years of age she is the all time youngest
winner of this highly prestigious trophy. It was not
the first time the dressage rider had won an important
title. She eagerly collected medals in the junior
and the young-rider divisions. She became Team
European Champion for juniors and won silver in
the individual competition in Ermelo four years
ago. Charlott-Maria Schürmann celebrated a triumph
in Kronberg the following year. She won
three gold medals giving the competition no chance
for a victory at the European Championships.
She added team gold in Broholm and Bern to her
success record as a young rider, too. She won both
reserve titles in Switzerland; one in the freestyle
and one in the individual competition.
Charlott-Maria
and her stallions
She has a good feeling for both her Hanoverian
stallions. The Vice European Champion won the
Nürnberger Burgpokal on Burlington FRH and has
big plans with Celle’s state stud sire Edward.
By Britta Züngel
Reliable partners for her successes: three Hanoverian
chestnuts - three stallions! Her first championship
horse was World of Dreams by World Cup/
Cardinal xx (breeder: Adolf Eck, Lustadt). Burlington
FRH by Breitling W/Rohdiamant (breeder:
Hans-Heinrich Oltmann, Borstel) followed as a
young horse. Celle’s state stud sire Edward by Embassy/Fabriano
(breeder: Hans-Heinrich Dittmer,
Radbruch) was added at the beginning of this year.
“Hanoverians suit me very well,” Charlott-Maria
Schürmann says laughingly. “You must truly love
stallions and carefully build up trust; then they will
fight for the rider,” she raves. “I am certainly not
the tallest. Therefore I need very rideable horses.”
Her trainer Oliver Oelrich adds, “Elasticity is definitely
a decisive factor; the rest lies in the riding
technique!” Charlott-Maria Schürmann has trained
with the renowned rider and trainer in Lengerich
for more than five years. No less than seven
young german cadre members and their horses
train with Oliver Oelrich at his small facility. “They
have thirst for knowledge and they are very ambitious.
It is a lot of fun to work with them,” the
trainer praises his protégées. “We all get along
well and visit the same horse shows. That is a lot of
fun,” so Charlott-Maria Schürmann.
Charlott-Maria grew up in a family of horse enthusiasts
in Gehrde. Father Heinz-Werner always supported
both daughters and their the passion for
horses. Charlott-Maria had outgrown the ponies
once turned fifteen and needed a good and experienced
dressage horse. Family Schürmann found
the privately owned stallion World of Dreams at
Heinrich Klatte’s facility. The first impression was
that the stallion of some caliber was too strong for
the rather small and young female rider. They got
on well from the first moment on though. “I rode a
flying change for the first time in my life. It was so
cool!” Charlott-Maria Schürmann remembers. A
price was negotiated and World of Dreams who
was a Grand Prix winner had to be retrained for
M-level dressage level. “It seemed as if this made
‘Woody’ fresher every year. At the European Championships
he was 17 years of age but appeared
younger than he looked when he was fourteen. He
12 The Hanoverian 07|2013

Sport
was an incredible teacher!” Oliver Oelrich explains.
Burlington FRH came to Lengerich as a lanky fiveyear
old in 2008. “He had all the necessary ingredients
and was extremely rideable.” The stallion
placed seventh at the Bundeschampionat as a sixyear
old; he competed internationally in the junior
division as a seven-year old. Charlott-Maria Schürmann
preferred to ride the experienced World of
Dreams at the European Championships for juniors
in 2010. Burlington FRH had to rest for a while
because of an accident. He returned to competition
in full force one year later: He won his first Prix
St. Georges in Dortmund’s Westphalen Arena in
2012. Seven victories followed! The triumph of
winning the Nürnberger Burgpokal was the highlight
Charlott-Maria Schürmann still cannot quite
wrap her head around, “I was pretty nervous and
overwhelmed before the final we won. I rode a
flawless test that meant the victory!” Now she is
diligently training for the Grand Prix. It takes time.
“Burlington FRH has to develop more strength for
the Grand Prix. If we had forced this last year, he
would have been less successful in the junior division,”
Oliver Oelrich is convinced. Charlott-Maria
Schürmann adds, “We shall compete once Burlington
is ready and not before.” Oliver Oelrich is convinced
that Charlott-Maria will succeed in making
the transition from young rider to Grand Prix-competitor,
“The difference predominantly lies in the
head of the rider and after that in the succession of
movements. The basic quality of the horse is of utmost
importance for the rising young riders. Grand
Prix horses do not necessarily require the most
exuberant movement. The difficulty is that these
younger riders lack experience. Many horses are
not appropriately trained.” The german national
trainer for juniors and young riders called Hans-
Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen is confident. He attests
to the talent and the ambition of the young dressage
rider, “Marie-Charlotte wants to win and is
very able to call on her performance potential in
competitions.”
The focus is on competition
Using Burlington FRH as a breeding stallion is an
issue father Heinz-Werner Schürmann is toying
with. “My dad is fanatic about breeding. He attends
licensing and mare and foal shows as often
as possible.” His daughter and her trainer slow him
down as they focus on competition. Breeding horses
is also dear to Oliver Oelrich’s heart as he grew
up riding the young horses of breeders, “It is sad
that many riders do not know anything about the
breeding and seem not at all interested in it. The
cost of training is too high for breeders. We must
try very hard to get more people excited about horse
breeding!”
It was a mere coincidence that state-stud sire Edward
who was born 2005 came to Charlott-Maria
Schürmann. Hans-Peter Klaus had already successfully
competed Edward at Prix St. Georges when
state stud manager Dr. Axel Brockmann decided to
follow a different path, “We want to support a
young rider from Lower Saxony. Charlott-Maria
Schürmann loves to compete and she has a good
hand with stallions.” The appropriate arrangements
were made for Edward to compete while
also being used as a breeding stallion. “ Edward
was well trained. I was able to ride everything with
him right away,” Charlott-Maria Schürmann remembers
the tryouts at the state stud. And there
we see it again; the smile that makes the young
dressage rider so attractive! Charlott-Maria and
the chestnut sire get along very well. They won
both S-level dressage classes in Vechta; they finished
the „Preis der Besten“ in second place after
winning the introductory class in Warendorf. The
plans are ambitious; she aims to win the Louisdor-
Prize that is a Grand Prix for up-and-coming dressage
horses with eight-year old Edward during her
last year as a young rider. “Edward has all the prerequisites
for a Grand Prix, “ so Oliver Oelrich.
The story of chestnut stallions continues.
Burlington’s full-brother has already moved into
the parental stable to be prepared for the stallion
licensing. Charlott-Maria is only at home on rare
occasions. Her life centers around her student
apartment in Münster and the riding facility in Lengerich.
“The whole family comes together at horse
shows. They give everything and support me in
every way possible.” Attending the university and
riding horses is a good combination. She goes to
the barn before or after her classes. She works harder
before horse shows. “I greatly enjoy the daily
training,” she explains. “It is important to be creative
in your training’s program. Horses do not like
being bored.” “Gymnastic exercises are everything
in the training,” Oliver Oelrich says. Horses must
have inner peace and enjoy moving!” Charlott-
Maria Schürmann studies the science of industrial
management. She already has a plan for her future
career path. She would like to join her mother in
her business; producing special clothing. This will
however still take a while. Her greatest dream is to
compete in a Championship. Charlott-Maria Schürmann
is especially proud of the co-operation with
the Hanoverian Association for Promoting Hanoverian
Horses in Competition (FRH) ; it is also an incentive;
“This is a huge honor for me; especially
when I consider that Desperados and Don Johnson
are FRH-horses also.” •
“We are a great team and enjoy the
work!” Charlott-Marie Schürmann
and Oliver Oelrich agree.
“He is my all time favorite!”
The rider who wanted to wear the tiara of the
sport of jumping in Germany had to participate
in the jump-off. For female riders three accepted
the challenge of winning the title; three were on
Hanoverian stallions. 10 out of 40 of the participating
horses carried the Hanoverian foal brand. The
result of the second qualification was sensational:
Hanoverian horses took the placements two to
five! Perigueux by Perpignon/Stakkato (breeder:
Dr. Karl-Otto Jacobs, Bierbergen) was the last competitor
in the exciting jump-off. Eva Bitter risked
everything on the current Grande Prize-holder. She
celebrated winning gold for the fifth time after
only 38,6 seconds.” This was phenomenal! Normally
I just cannot win a jump-off against Katrin
Eckermann.” Katrin Eckermann and her mount the
chestnut Firth of Lorne by For Pleasure/Stakkato
(breeder: Meinolf Roelleke, Bochum) surpassed
everyone until the very last seconds, when the title
was taken from her. She was a very happy Reserve
Champion! The bronze medal went to Ambassador
N.T. by Askari/Weltmeister (b.: Udo Pflaum, Kaulitz)
and Sarah Nagel-Tornau.
The male rider division award ceremony took place
with Hanoverian horses, too. A quartet emerged in
the first class that remained penalty-free throughout
all rounds. Rolf Moormann was the first participant
in the jump-off on Acorte by Acorado
(breeder: Heinrich Bremer, Neustadt); This horse is
a Hanoverian with the a dam by Stakkato such as
Perigueux and Firth of Lorne. This pair had two
jumping faults and was unable to defend last years
bronze medal. 23-year old Patrick Stühlmeyer was
the championships surprise. He is member of the
prospective group of the German Olympic Committee
for Riding and rode Lord Lohengrin by
Lordanos/Diskus (breeder: Helmut Kordes, Sulingen)
beautifully and finished in third place without
penalties. The national trainer awarded this performance
with the permission to compete at the
CHIO in Aachen. Daniel Deußer won the title on
Cornet D’Amour.
Four medals in the dressage ring
Helen Langehanenberg did justice to her role as
favorite. She won both possible gold medals with
her mount Damon Hill NRW. Don Johnson FRH by
Don Frederico/ Warkant (breeder: Ulrike Meyer, Dedelstorf)
and rider Isabell Werth proved to be in
top form. The pair performed an excellent Grand
Prix Special and a freestyle filled with movements
at the highest degree of difficulty and placing second
in both classes. “We are doing better and
better but we are nowhere near our limit – we are
now just slowly starting to attack,” Isabell Werth
explained with joy. Anabel Balkenhol presented
her Dablino FRH by De Niro/Wanderbusch II (breeder:
Weert-Arnold Sweers, Krummhörn) with precision
and elegance to win the bronze medal in the
Grand Prix Special. Fabienne Lütkemeier rode a
new freestyle on her mount D’Agostino by De
Niro/Shogun xx (breeder: Klaus Lahmann, Dassendorf)
to music that was absolutely perfect for the
long-legged chestnut gelding. The performance
earned D’Agostino his first bronze medal at a German
Championship.
Dark Dynamic by Don Vino/Hohenstein (breeder:
Georg Kok, Bunderhee) was the best rising youngster
in Balve. The ten-year old won the Louisdor-
Prize for the best up-and-coming dressage competitor
with rider Nadine Capellmann. •
aligned resp. implemented jointly. There
are plans to already accept members of
the Rheinisches Pferdestammbuch and their
horses (Rhineland and Westphalia) for the
Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in October
2013. One representative of the Rheinisches
Pferdestammbuch will complement the Hanoverian
Stallion Licensing Committee.
Another important issue of the alliance is the
mutual assistance when it comes to marketing
strategies with the aim to considerably
foster the joint market position. The Horse
Centre in Wickrath is located at one of the
most favourable venues for selling sport horses
in Germany. The triangle Wickrath, Alsfeld
and Verden provides a strong foundation for
the domestic market. Breeders of the Rheinisches
Pferdestammbuch will benefit from an
improved access to international markets.
The combination Verden-Wickrath offers
many possibilities and direct advantages for
both partners when it comes to enlarged additional
marketing strategies.
The co-operation emerged from the responsibilities
of both breeding associations for their
breeders. Courage, the disposition for a com-
mon approach and mutual trust in the work
of the executive boards made this step possible.
The Manager of the Rheinisches Pferdestammbuch,
Theo Leuchten, explained: “Our
discussions were open, full of trust and focused
on targets. This decision secures the
future of the warmblood breed in Rhineland.”
Manfred Schäfer, Chairman of the
Hannoveraner Verband, is also convinced of
the correctness of this decision: “We perfectly
match each other. The breeders of the Rheinisches
Pferdestammbuch have successful
horses, partially tracing back to a Hanoverian
basis.” Both breeding and business managers,
Martin Spoo and Dr. Werner Schade,
agreed: “This co-operation is meant to prepare
a fusion. A clear signal should be set for
the necessary structural reforms of the German
sport horse breed.” •
Breeding
Everything for
the breed
Almost ten years ago Susanne and Jochen
Schrader had to choose between a boarding
facility with school-horses or a breeding
facility: Their Hanoverian heart made the
decision!
By Julia Martin
The house is more than 100 years old.
The huge, silver-grey home arises in front of the
visitor once he/she steps on the premises of Susanne
and Jochen Schrader in Königslutter. The
house is made of a certain type of stone from the
Helmstedt/ Wolfenbüttel region. Mr. and Mrs. Schade
welcome guests with heartfelt sincerity.
The grandfather laid the foundation
Fritz Jesse came from Anklam in Western Pomerania
as a refugee and acquired the farm from Family
Schrader during the post-war period. Finally daughter
Margot Jesse married Karl-August Schrader. He
was an athletic teacher and had no equestrian
gene in him. It simply must have jumped a generation:
Grandfather Fritz Jesse worked as a livestock
and horse dealer. Horses had always been part of
the farm’s inventory. Jochen Schrader and his three
brothers enjoyed spending every free minute with
their grandfather. They rode ponies at a young age
and later on horses. Horses and riding became
more than only a passion to Jochen Schrader; he
was born in 1965. They became a crucial part of his
life. He laid the foundation for this development
from 1982 until 1985 when he studied equine management
with an emphasis on breeding and raising
of horses at the State Stud Celle and added
studying equine management with the emphasis
on riding at the State Riding and Driving School in
Vechta. He successfully completed the exam to become
a licensed trainer for the handicapped in
1991. Jochen Schrader was a riding instructor at
the facility of his grandfather in Königslutter and at
the Riding Club in Braunschweig after his training.
His Grandfathers facility offered 18 box stalls and
an outdoor riding ring. He gave lessons and trained
with Frank Uhde on the side in Braunschweig. He
successfully competed at the S-level in dressage. “I
Susanne and Jochen Schrader with trainer/rider Angela
Drake (left) and mare Distelbluete. Photos: Martin
greatly enjoyed teaching and therapeutic riding.
Both were very important to me,” Jochen Schrader
explains. His profession provided for an additional
fundamental change. He met his future wife Susanne
who has loved horses since her youth. Jochen
Schrader put the final touches on his wife’s riding
skills. Horses create very special connections! They
got married in 1995. Susanne Schrader is a trained
industrial businesswoman and a system analyst.
She works in a marketing management institute
and attends to projects for new employees at the
Volkswagen plant.
“I ride one or two horses when I return home from
work at night,” the 48-year old reports with a smile
on her face. Fritz Jesse died in 1995 and the
couple had to make the decision whether to keep
the inherited property or sell the farm and build a
new home. “I could not part with the farm,” Jochen
Schrader explains. “I have always been very much
at home here and love it. I have so many memories
here. So we decided to reorganize and restructure.”
The buildings were completely renovated. We gave
up the school horses and the therapeutic riding
program in 2005. The reason for the change could
not have been a better one: Schraders wanted to
focus solely on breeding Hanoverians. They had a
small breeding program in place. Fritz Jesse had
laid the foundation for it with the mare Wienerin.
“We had no indoor arena and the riding lessons
had to be cancelled all too often during the winter
months. We had to make up our minds to either
invest in an indoor arena and in school horses or in
an extensive breeding program.”
16 The Hanoverian 07|2013

Fritz Jesse bred Wienerin by Walzertraum/Julius
Caesar xx. His grandson inherited a very valuable
mare. She delivered 14 foals. Her descendants are
of excellent quality and do very well in various disciplines.
Wienerin was bred to Dream of Glory six
times. Her son Duvall who was born 1997 developed
into a first-rate athlete. Jochen Schrader’s
brother Klaus has collected blue ribbons with the
stallion at the Grand Prix-level. The pair successfully
participated in the Lower Saxony Championships
and in World Cup-qualifications several times. The
powerful stallion retired from competition this year.
“Duvall was always so well-behaved. My 13-year
old nephew Paul competed him in dressage classes
at the E- and A-level last year. That is certainly not
the norm,” Susanne Schrader raves. Full-sister Distelbluete
received the Ia-award several times and is
a state’s premium mare. The typy dark bay has earned
her keep as a proven broodmare in the barn of
Family Schrader by far: She has delivered seven foals;
four of which have sold through Verden’s auction
program. Her approved son by Weltmeyer
called What a Dream competes in dressage at the
S-level under Katrin Alkenings and Anke Bergmann.
Daughter Fleur by Florencio successfully competes
in dressage at the M-level. Full-sister Francis participated
in Verden’s auction program and now competes
under the name For my dream under rider
Katrin Alkenings. Daughter Wunschkind by Worldly
completed her mare performance test as one of the
best in dressage and is now stabled in Königslutter.
Her son Little Big Man is currently a member of
Verden’s summer auction. Wienerin was the dam of
the winning family at the mare show in Königslutter
in 2003 with daughter Distelbluete and fullsister
Dana. Winston Churchill by Worldly is another
S-level dressage competitor out of the
foundation mare. Anja Hermelink collects ribbons
with him in the dressage ring. The mare Ferrera by
Fabriano/Deichvogt is another pillar of the Family
Schrader breeding program. She was acquired as a
two-year old. “Ferrera is bottle-fed and a bit different
in her behavior. She does not grant you space
but all her offspring have wonderful dispositions
and convince with excellent rideability,” Susanne
Schrader explains. Her daughter Mabel by Muenchhausen
was one of Verden’s top-selling horses of
the November auction in 2006 and her son Campari
by Cordoba both support Susanne Schrader’s
explanation impressively. Campari sold on Verden’s
summer auction in 2007 and participated in the
German Junior Rider Championships in 2011. Chanel
by Certus/Wittelsbach (breeder: Heinrich Eylmann)
was one of Schrader’s foundation mares for
many years. Bred to Fabriano she delivered the
approved sire Ferruccio who successfully competes
in S-level jumper classes under rider Anne Oberle.
The broodmares of business partner Sven Frohreich
are also stabled on the farm. About seven foals are
born in Königslutter every year.
Jochen and Susanne Schraders breeding program
has a good reputation: 27 Hanoverians have found
new homes through Verden’s auction program. Ten
hectares of fields that are located outside the farm
are part of the business. The indoor riding arena at
the neighboring riding club is in walking distance.
The youngsters grow up in open-stables in Rieseberg
that is a few kilometers away. “We trailer horses
or walk foals at the road side,” so Susanne
Schrader. “It guarantees that our horses are wellbehaved
and reliable; most recreational riders appreciate
this.” The rideability of the dams is just as
important. “We ride every mare before they enter
our breeding program.” Jochen Schrader attends to
the training of the young horses. Most horses are
sold after they have been broken to saddle. Schrader
enjoys working with training facilities like that
of auction rider Sascha Böhnke, “They often add
the finishing touches to the training.” Jochen
Schrader no longer rides. The reason is Loriot by
Lemon Park xx who was trained by Jochen Schrader
and sold on one of Verden’s auctions. “I sold my
heart when I sold him. He was very special.” The
Schrader stry not to be discouraged too much by
the current difficult market situation. Susanne
Schrader is confident, “We have to find creative
solutions. It is essential to be in the limelight today.
You have to make personal contact. Our homepage
is an important medium to get customers attention.”
And they seem to be successful! •
Hannoveraner Verband
A Bonus
for Both Sides
The Hannoveraner Verband has changed the auction
billing from a commission based to an agency based
business transaction. In an interview with DER
HANNOVERANER, Gerhard Wiechers, Business
Manager for Finance Department, explains the
reasons and the therefor attached opportunities.
By Julia Martin
The reduced VAT of 7% for horses was abolished
July 1st, 2012. Since then, the full VAT of
19% has been valid for the sale of horses. The German
Parliament has decided this with the community
financial reform law last year. Background of
the change was the decision of the European
Court of Justice from May 2011, indicating that
the reduced tax rate cannot be applied for all horses.
The European Court of Justice approved the
possibility to maintain the reduced tax rate for the
sale of agricultural work horses, breeding stock
and slaughter horses. Unfortunately, the legislator
did not use the available opportunity for an exception
of the rule, since a clear line cannot be drawn
between sport and pleasure horses as the tax authority
claims.
For one year now, the horse trade has gotten 12%
more expensive due to this change. The Managing
Directors of the Hannoveraner Verband have now
checked the possible consequences and opportunities
for the auction business, which may arise
from a change of the now in place commission
based business to an agency business (broker). After
thorough consideration of all facts, it was decided
that as of the Elite Foal Auction 2013, the way
of accounting will be changed to an agency based
business.
DER HANNOVERANER: What are the reasons
for this re-organization? What are the resulting
news?
Gerhard Wiechers: With the so far used commission
based business, all horses were taxed equally
18 The Hanoverian 07|2013

Hannoveraner Verband
with the full VAT of 19% since July 1st, 2012. The
result was that since that time, the end user had to
invest 12% more when buying a horse. With the
decided change to an agency based business, the
customers of the Verband receive the economic tax
benefits which are currently offered. These measures
are meant to stimulate the purchase behaviour
at the auctions. We would like the Verden auctions
to become more attractive again, because the buyer
can invest more of the total budget directly towards
the knock down price. This is of advantage
for both sides: the exhibitor can be pleased about
more bids and the customer has more money to
spend for the desired horse.
DER HANNOVERANER: Let‘s have a look at
this innovation in practice: When and where
do specifications to an individual sales tax
rate have to be made? What happens if
nothing gets claimed?
Gerhard Wiechers: Nothing changes with the current
rules and regulations. With the approval of a
horse to one of the Verden auctions, the Verband
issues a contract with the exhibitor regarding the
auction conditions. Part of the contract is about
the conditions, specifying sales billing, in which the
exhibitor has to answer sales tax rate questions.
Experience has shown that the exhibitors are aware
of their status in this regard. We have been able
to give professional assistance in single cases
when lack of clarity or uncertainty was apparent.
This has worked well in the past, and I estimate it
won‘t be a problem in the future either. The three
different tax rates will be published in the auction
brochure with each horse. The exhibitors have to
have given their sales tax information at the editorial
deadline. If that has not happened, the candidates
will automatically have a 19% sales tax. A
belated change is not possible.
DER HANNOVERANER: Up to now, the calculation
amount revealed the following:
Knock down price + 6% commission= net
amount + 19% VAT= gross price + 1% insurance
= final balance amount. What does
the new calculation model look like?
Gerhard Wiechers: That is the calculation model in
a commission based business. The Verband on the
other side is now a broker in an agency based
business, and the individual sales tax rate of the
exhibitor (commercial or farmer opting to tax =
19%; flat tax farmer = 10.7%; hobby breeder/private
+ 0%) gets billed to the buyer. This is what
the purchaser’s settlement looks like:
Knock down price + sales tax rate of the seller
(0%, 10.7% or 19%)
= subtotal 1
+ auction fee in the amount of 6% of the knock
down price plus 19% VAT on this (as is laid down
in §§ 12, 2 German VAT Act)
= subtotal 2
Subtotal 1 plus subtotal 2= gross price + 1% insurance
plus 19% tax on insurance
= final balance amount
The change is that the sales tax rate of the seller
gets added to the knock down price. The commission
amount and the VAT of 19% on this commission
as well as the insurance premium stay the
same.
DER HANNOVERANER: Auction horses now
get taxed in three different categories. Do
exhibitors with the highest sales tax rate
have a disadvantage?
Gerhard Wiechers: It might look like that at first
glance. The billing stays the same for the exhibitor,
just as it was with the up to now system. Nothing
is getting more expensive, but to be honest, it isn‘t
getting cheaper either. However, we are hoping to
stimulate the general buyer’s behaviour, from
which the exhibitors should also benefit. Overall, it
should and will be the liking of the new Hanoverian
horse, not the tax rate of the exhibitor, that will
decide on a purchase.
DER HANNOVERANER: How will the Hannoveraner
Verband handle claims in the future?
Gerhard Wiechers: In formal legal terms, changes
in the relationship between buyer, seller and the
Verband will arise. The attitude of the Verband in
regards to direction and assistance of the breeder
in cases of complaints will remain unchanged. The
auction conditions will be adapted accordingly.
The Verband is aware of its responsibility for the
exhibitor and will continue to perceive so.
DER HANNOVERANER: What will be different
with the change for clients from other
countries?
Gerhard Wiechers: The essential change for foreign
clients is that the billed sales tax rate from farmers
using a flat tax cannot be refunded, as the tax
from the exhibitor does not get paid to the tax authorities.
However, the billing for export in the settlement
is more extensive and will lead to an increased
need for explanation. Furthermore, export
details and transport decisions need to be made by
the buyer as soon as possible after the purchase.
Up to now, the Verband has organized the requirements
associated with export for their own VAT
return. Now, we have to meet the requirements for
the exhibitor and provide for their accounting.•
New starting bids:
The executive committee of the
Verband decided to change the
starting bids at the auctions as
follows:
Interim auctions:
new 6,000 Euros
(so far 4,000 Euros)
Elite riding horse auctions:
new 10,000 Euros
(so far 7,000 Euros)
Broodmares:
new 6,000 Euros
(so far 5,000 Euros)
Foals:
new 3,000 Euros
(so far 2,500 Euros)
Licensing (licensed stallions)
new 15,000 Euros
(so far 12,500 Euros)
Licensing (non-licensed
stallions)
new 8,000 Euros
(so far 7,000 Euros)
Raising bids will be as of now for
riding horses, broodmares and
stallions at least 500 Euros and
for foals at least 300 Euros.
Roman Duchac can still remember his first auction
very well, “My first auction in Verden as
an auction rider was the one in November 2002. I
worked with groom Kathrin Meiners at the time.
She was a tremendous help. She allowed me to
focus on the training and riding of the auction participants
I was entrusted with.” Roman Duchac is
forty years old and was born in Czechia. He learned
to become a businessman after graduating
from high school. He came to Germany as a rider
and trainer in 1995. He trained open jumpers including
the horses from the Stallion Station Sosath.
Roman Duchac started his own business
three years later and opened up a show and training
barn in Hannoversch Münden with his wife
Patricia. “I would not be where I am today without
my wife,” so Roman Duchac. He underlines that his
wife backs him up all the time. “I could not be
happier; my wife supports me 100 percent. I am
very grateful for that.” The couple have started
their own Hanoverian breeding program together
with their two children Thies (20) and Nora (13).
Patricia Duchac successfully competed foundation
mare Expertin by Emigrant/Servus in open jumper
classes at the M-level before Expertin became a
successful broodmare. Family Duchac has successful
offspring to show for; i.e. Anaconda D by Artari/
Quantus, a participant at the World Championships
for young jumper horses or a three-year old
by Chacco Blue/Quantus, the winner of Verden’s
free-jumping competition.
Roman Duchac has a tremendous competition record:
1,000 placements in open jumper classes
from the A- to the S-level including about 200 victories
mostly in jumper horse classes. The most
successful horse Checkmate by Contender/Pik
Bube II, an international competitor with rider Meredith
Michaels-Beerbaum, received his basic training
from Roman Duchac, who successfully introduced
this top-level competitor to jumper shows.
“I love starting and training young open-jumpers. I
have made it my line of work. We train many horses
with the objective to sell them through Verden’s
auction program as well-prepared and well-started
jumper horses with some show experience.” The
father of two has worked as a guest rider in Verden
for more than ten years. He rides jumper horses on
elite and interim auctions. He has actively participated
in the Aslfeld Advent at the Equestrian Center
Alsfeld since it started.
Roman Duchac has been a permanent member of
Verden’s auction team since 2002. The auction
management and the co-workers appreciate his
professional expertise. “Roman remains calm and
collected in all situations. That is of utmost importance
when training of young horses,” trainer
Hartmut Kettelhodt states. “He handles every auction
horse with equal care. The top horse or the
inexperienced and young prospect – he gives the
necessary attention to both equally well.” Auction
manager Jörg-Wilhelm Wegener especially appreciates
the jumper riders riding skills; he knows to
show off the highlights of each individual horse in
the auction arena. “He has the talent to quickly
adapt to the horses assigned to him. He develops
a training concept for each individual in no time.
Customers and breeders really appreciate his expertise
and often ask for Roman’s advice on and
his evaluation of auction participants,” so Jörg-
Wilhelm Wegener who looks forward to a continued
and long cooperation with Roman Duchac. •
