Aaron drew ba ck, horrified to see th at Miriam had suddenly bec ome lepr ous I<br />

Moses knelt down, leaned over with his face to th e grou nd and called<br />

out to God.<br />

"Ma ke her well now, God!" he cried out. "Be merciful and forgive<br />

her and Aaron of their sins! Remove this awful disease from my siste r<br />

now!" (Verse 13.)<br />

<strong>The</strong>n God suddenly answered Moses: "Because of her disrespect for<br />

authority, Miriam must be shut out of the camp and My presence for<br />

seven days."<br />

To her horror and disgrace, Miriam was led to a distant spot far<br />

outsi de the camp, there to sit and loath e herself in utter misery.<br />

Meanwhile , the Israelites were pr epared to start out agai n. But the<br />

cloud didn 't move forwa rd, and this obviously mean t that God was<br />

delaying the mar ch until Miri am would be brought back into camp<br />

healed. (Verses 14-15.)<br />

After a week had passed , she was brought back into her tent. God<br />

had answered Moses' prayers and had healed her . She and Moses and<br />

Aaron were very tha nkfu l. At the same ti me, Miriam was sorry for having<br />

spoken out so boldly and wrongly agai nst Moses. If she had failed to<br />

repent, God would have refused to ta ke away her te rrib le leprosy, an d it<br />

would soon have caused her death .<br />

Miriam learned the lesson that all shou ld learn-that spea king evil<br />
