The course adopts an interactive teaching<br />

approach, where students learn in an SME workplace<br />

environment. This innovative teaching method has proved<br />

to be an effective way <strong>of</strong> learning and is very popular with<br />

students. It does not only teach students basic accounting<br />

theories but also trains them to use computer accounting<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware, which is widely used by SMEs in <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong>.<br />

Our membership base has increased to over 800 since its<br />

launch in 2004. As for registered students, the number<br />

stood at 8,224 (including 773 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Bridging<br />

Examination (PBE) students) by end <strong>of</strong> June 2006. There<br />

are 135 PBE graduates who are now eligible to study the<br />

Qualification Programme (QP) <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> Certified Public Accountants. Since we first started<br />

running our examinations in 1989, a total <strong>of</strong> 7,038<br />

graduates have successfully completed the <strong>Accounting</strong><br />

Technician Examination (ATE) and the accumulated total<br />

number <strong>of</strong> awardees for the Certified Accounts Clerk (CAC)<br />

is 247.<br />

It is my great honour to be elected as President this year.<br />

On behalf <strong>of</strong> the HKIAAT, I would like to express my sincere<br />

gratitude and appreciation to all the Board members and<br />

Committee members for their support and contribution, in<br />

particular the two Vice-Presidents, Messrs Kennedy Tat-yin<br />

Liu and James <strong>Kong</strong>. I also wish to thank the Secretariat<br />

staff for their hard work in accomplishing the achievements<br />

under the direction <strong>of</strong> the Board. The exciting new<br />

developments outlined in this report demonstrate that the<br />

HKIAAT lives up to our pledge to provide premier services<br />

to our members and students. I hope that you will<br />

continue to give us your support in bringing the HKIAAT to<br />

a new era <strong>of</strong> success!<br />
