Definition of Subject With the approval of the version 1.0 specification of Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) by the OASIS Technical Committee in August 2003 there is now a standard for the development of a diverse set of new and rich web services running at remote sites and integrated into existing portals without the need to wrap the interfaces by specifically build proxies. Such remote portlets expand the data oriented web services with an additional presentation layer efficiently decoupling the content producing application from the consuming portal. The subject of this work is to explore the possibility to compose a user administrated groupware by using Web Services for Remote Portlets to allow a decentralized allocation of shared applications. A web portal acts hereby as common content aggregator for web services which run remotely on the computers of individual users. Unlike other WSRP applications the shared group services can dynamically be added and removed by all participants on logon to the portal without the need of an additional system administrator who deploys these remote services to the portal. A unified proxy could query each member’s computer for a list of available web services to be integrated in the current portal view. All users of this groupware could now access the new services until the providing member logs off. Rights management could be made available by referring to the portal’s user account data. Beside the theoretical aspects of the subject a proof-of-concept will be developed in the form of a shared files application using apache’s WSRP4J toolkit.
