<strong>TRIPLE</strong> I<br />

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE <strong>TRIPLE</strong> I - APPLICATION<br />

Read carefully all the following information before beginning to fill in your application. Please notice,<br />

that you need to have the required documents at hand before entering the online application form.<br />

GETTING STARTED<br />

STEP 1: Learn eligibility criteria and application requirements for applying<br />

Dates of study periods and study/research opportunities will vary from university to university;<br />

therefore, to assure that your application is correct and accurate it is highly recommended you get<br />

acquainted with the host university(-ies) before entering the online application form. The most<br />

common reason for the rejection is a neglectful application.<br />

Most universities have provided information on study and reasearch opportunities at their web pages.<br />

If you have any further questions, you should contact the Triple I contact person(s) at the host<br />

university.<br />

STEP 2: Keep in mind these general tips<br />

• You have to complete application at one sitting. After submitting your application, you cannot<br />

make any changes to it.<br />

• The application form contains 5 sections. Review each section before proceeding, and fill in<br />

each page carefully.<br />

• All items of this application are to be completed in English.<br />

• You will need information on your previous education.<br />

• Avoid using capital letters. It is better to use upper and lower case, e.g. Ordinary Joe.<br />

• You can copy and paste all information into text boxes (e.g. Motivation Letter).<br />

• In the text boxes limit your responses to the number of character indicated in instructions.<br />

• You will need to create university specific Motivation Letter and Study<br />

(ECTS)/Research/Teaching/Working plan to each university you are applying. You should not<br />

copy same information to each text box!<br />

• Get aquinted with the host university’s academic calender and study offers prior to applying.<br />

• Once you have submitted your application succesfully, you will get your personal Triple I<br />

application number. Record this number and attach it to all enclosures.<br />

STEP 3: Complete the application<br />

N.B. These instructions are only an overview of the application form, not a complete guide.<br />

SECTION I: PERSONAL INFORMATION<br />

Name: Give your given name(s) and family name exactly as they appear or will appear on your<br />

(foreign) passport. Please use upper and lower case when entering your name. Do not use capital<br />

letters or all lower case. Also, do not use diacritical markings (accent marks) as this can create<br />

computer-related problems.<br />

Personal Status: Choose one alternative that decribes your current status.<br />

Current Address: Write your address accurately and completely indicating street name and number,<br />

postal code and country.<br />

Email address: It is essential to give correct and valid email address. All correspondences during the<br />

selection process will be made by email. The email address must be for your personal use so that it<br />

cannot be accessed by another person. If you have a @list.ru, @mail.ru or @bk.ru email address, we<br />

prefer, that you use an alternate email address in order to avoid possible problems in contacting you.<br />

Address: Write your address the way it would be written on an envelope (street name, postal code,<br />

city/town). Please choose the country from the drop-down menu. If you currently have another<br />

address than your permanent one, the Triple I Coordinator will use the current address until the date<br />

indicated. It is essential that you keep us informed of any change of address.<br />

SECTION II: EXCHANGE INFORMATION<br />

Study Programme(s) / Research Field / Teaching Topics: Students should indicate the name of the<br />

master programme they wish to apply for or take courses from. To be able to answer this question,<br />

you should prepare your ECTS Study/Research/Teaching/Working plan for each host university you<br />

are applying for.<br />

Main language of instruction: Indicate the main language of instruction at the host university (in<br />

which you are capable of following lectures or carrying out research).<br />

Main Subject Field: Indicate the subject field of your main studies/research at the host university. To<br />

be able to answer this question, you should prepare your ECTS Study/Research/Teaching/Working<br />

plan for each host university.<br />

Minor Subject Field: Indicate the subject field of your minor studies at the host university. To be able<br />

to answer this question, you should prepare your ECTS Study/Research/Teaching/Working Plan for<br />

each host university.<br />

Study and research fields must relate to the Triple I theme. Please read more at<br />

www.utu.fi/en/iii/triplei/studyfields.html<br />

ECTS Learning Agreement Summary/ Research Plan Summary/Teaching/Working Plan: Provide<br />

the programme/university specific course codes (if any), course titles and amount of ECTS credits.<br />

Doctorate, post-doctorate and staff applicants must append a summary of their<br />

Research/Teaching/Working Plan and send their full plan to the Triple I Coordinator in Turku by<br />

deadline.<br />

Motivation Letter: Write a short essay where you can, for example, introduce yourself and explain<br />

why you want to study in the programme, and how the study period abroad will benefit your academic<br />

and professional goals. Essay will provide the readers with a picture of your career interests and key<br />

qualifications. It is essential that you provide a programme specific motivation letter for each university<br />

you are applying for. Please explain how your mobility links with the theme of Integration, Interaction<br />

and Institution.<br />

If you are applying for doctoral, post-doctorate or staff exchanges, please explain also how your<br />

assignment will add value to your ongoing local interests, and also those in your Home and Host<br />

Universities. Remember to explain your planned objectives and expected results. Explain in the<br />

Motivation Letter whether you are planning to take courses towards your doctoral dissertation at your<br />

home university, or to take a whole doctoral degree at the host university, and whether your exchange<br />

is more practically oriented, mainly research work or teaching.<br />

Remember: you likely need to write more than one draft, so prepare your motivation letter prior to<br />

entering the online application! The Motivation Letter must be written in English.<br />

The maximum length of the letter is 5000 characters. Interests and experiences abroad (relevant for<br />

the grant period) can be added in your CV.<br />

SECTION III: TARGET GROUP 1/2/3<br />

Purpose of Mobility: Please see the definition of non-degree and degree students at<br />

www.utu.fi/en/iii/applicants/definition.html. Note that applying for Triple I grant does not necessarily<br />

give you the right to take a degree at the host university. Degree seeking applicants should contact the<br />

host university(-ies) for further information on degree studies.<br />

Duration in months: Please follow the host universities’ recommendations for the exchange periods<br />

as well as the arrival dates.<br />

SECTION IV: ACADEMIC BACKGROUND<br />

In this section you will be asked about your previous (exception: undergraduate applicants) and<br />

current education. Please be sure to indicate the full degree name in English designation.<br />

If you have more than one diploma at the level of your highest educational attainment, please refer to<br />

the diploma which is the most relevant to your exchange period.<br />

Russian applicants applying for exchange to Europe: EU Member States are Austria, Belgium,<br />

Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,<br />

Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia,<br />

Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and United Kingdom.<br />

EEA countries are Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.<br />

SECTION V: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION<br />

Language Competence: Indicate your language skills only in languages relevant to the exchange<br />

period. To be able to complete this section, you should prepared Language Assessment Sheet<br />

beforehand.<br />

STEP 4: Submit your application<br />

After you submitting your application, you will not be able to make changes to your application.<br />

STEP 5: Application completed<br />

Once you have submitted your application suggesfuly, you will get your personal Triple I application<br />

number. Record this number and attach it to all enclosures. Your application will not be considered<br />

completed until you the Triple I Coordinator has received all your suporting documentation.<br />
