Flyer – Notice of Meeting
President’s Report
Well, what can I say, we had a tremendous attendance of Probians at our quarterly meeting, 110 members
representing 46 clubs what a great effort from the Hunter Regions various clubs. Such a Buzz of fellowship and
chatter with one another which was fantastic. I would firstly like to welcome all new delegates from our various
clubs who perhaps are new in office this year and particularly those members who were representing their club as
their activity or program officers for the remainder of the year.
I thank Colleen Jones from Toronto Macquarie Ladies Probus Club who volunteered to join the Hunter Region
Committee this year.
It was great to see in our Active Retirees March April issue the article about our Hunter Region Past President, John
Roughley, and I would like to thank John for sharing part of his life with us. Well done and a great advocate for
Probus.
Some members who are avid crossword puzzlers were not happy with the Puzzle Page 75 in the June/July issue of
Active Retirees with the size of the print being very hard to read with our ageing eyesight particularly with the
questions being written in white on a black background. Suggested that the Secretary send a letter to the Editor of
Active Retirees magazine.
Our great discussion in Open Forum was our Friendship Day which is to be held in the Railway Shed on Newcastle
Foreshore on 30 th October commencing at 10 a.m. We are hoping that a Lions Club will be our Chefs for our free BBQ
provided by Hunter Region on the day. Think about a club Banner if you haven't one ? Maybe you have a member of
your club who does Patchwork or is handy with needle and thread or artwork who could put one together? May be a
sheet of cardboard with your club name on it? Think about it - your club has time to do something about it before
the day but it is something that can be displayed at each club meeting and not just put away in the cupboard.
Hopefully our various clubs will volunteer to take charge and run the different suggested activities during the day
and make it a real Fun, Friendship and Fellowship Day.
Nick Ledingham from Tomaree Mens Probus Club suggested we should advertise Probus during the whole week
leading up to our Friendship Day with perhaps the news media involved to spread the word of what Probu s means to
us.
With different clubs advertising their proposed trips it is hoped that there are other clubs who could join them to
make their tours more viable. Let's try to make this happen as some clubs are really struggling to go on a holiday. All
arrangements already made but just need the numbers to fill a coach. I know some clubs are already doing this.
I am interested to know what type of entertainment would our members like for our Christmas meeting ?? Would
the members prefer a dance group or choir or ??? Can I have a suggestion from your club as to what you would like
at our September meeting please !!
We introduced to our meeting, Ray Davis from Raymond Terrace Probus Club as the newly appointed 9670 Rotary
District Chairman who is there to offer assistance to any club.
1

It was a shame that only 87 members stayed for lunch to continue in Fellowship.
Thank you to all attendees on the day for making our meeting so successful and friendly and for your co operation
and fellowship – let’s keep it that way.
Public Officers ‘Report:
By now your Club should have received the final Constitution 2013 document from Probus South Pacific Ltd. If not,
you should contact PSPL, who have apologised for hoisting this extra workload on Clubs.
The new Constitution embraces all those proposals that you had previously vote d upon plus some minor changes to
strengthen the document. These minor changes to the previously advised Constitution and most are only cosmetic
and occur in the following areas:-
5. Election of the Committee - sub section 'a'
6. Meetings - sub section 'a' and sub section 'I’
7. Subscriptions - sub section 'a' You may also need to adjust sub section 'd' if your year does not match up
8. Finance - sub section 'd'. Also you may need to alter you authorised signatories in 'e'.
9. Duties of Officers - sub section 'd' 14. Information -
sub section 'a'
Should your club agree to the Constitution without change then it is plain sailing. However the only wording you can
alter is that that is in 'ordinary type' not bold. You may have to submit any of these changes to PSLP for accept ance.
Additionally I submit a formal Notice of Motion 'That the Association accept the changes to its Constitution as
outlined in the formal document presented by South Pacific Ltd. Dated 2013 Final Rob Harvie Public Officer
