Alan Richards.
President’s Report:
The December Quarterly Meeting was attended
by 97 members from 41 clubs, all of whom I am
sure enjoyed a very informative meeting followed
by some first class entertainment by Ms Colleen
Potts and Troupe.
Business of the day was an address by Gary
Blackler, PSPL, in response to correspondence
from The Men's Probus Club of Valentine. On
receipt of the correspondence it was decided to
email clubs with registered email addresses and
ask that any queries or questions related to the
contents of 2013 Constitution by forwarded to
Probus Hunter Region. Gary Blackler was invited
by myself as only PSPL had the information
required to answer the questions that were
forwarded by the clubs. Gary gave an in depth
report but was unable to answer all questions
listed due to interjections from the floor. I would
suggest that any club who had outstanding
question contact Head Office, PSPL.
The charter of Hunter Region Probus Association
is to collect and distribute information and to
assist clubs to spread fellowship, across the
Hunter Region.
It is unfortunate that a few clubs have once again
argued a matter with PSPL, by correspondence
and telephone and when unable to resolve the
matter to their satisfaction have attempted to
dump the matter on the lap of Hunter Region
Probus Association.
Membership is now open to any retired or semiretired
member of the community. Probus has
moved on from the days of Probus membership
being retired or semi-retired business or
professional members of the community. I am
informed that sixty percent of the present
members would not qualify under the old rules
and that percentage is growing.
The draft 2013 Constitution has been discussed at
a number of Information Days, on at least three
occasions at our quarterly meetings and at a
number of club meetings where Pat Atkinson and
Gary Blackler have been guest speakers.
Clubs are master of their own destiny. In 2013
clubs will be required to vote on the acceptance
or rejection of the draft constitution. Hunter
Region Probus Association cannot and will not
attempt persuade any club on how it should vote.
This is my last report as President for the Hunter
Happenings as the year unfortunately draws to a
close.
Don't forget all positions of the Management will
be declared vacant at our March, 2013 meeting.
Fill in your nomination form. It is a great
experience.
I hope that you one and all had a wonderful
Christmas and that 2013 is a safe and prosperous
year for all and that Probus continues to grow
into the future.
Hunter Happenings hopefully will be published in January as it will contain nomination forms to take back to their
clubs and allow clubs time for nominations to the Hunter Region Committees
Gary Blackler then addressed the meeting.
Why the changes? - Standard Constitution February 2008 amended by Probus Clubs - same as in
Hunter Region 4 page document. Constitutions were reviewed in 2003, 2005 then 2008 normal
changes.
Stage 1 in July 57 out of 1,700 clubs responded with only 3 clubs sent in changes to be considered. Changes only
minor.
Change to membership qualifications to also admit lonely and disadvantaged members of the Community for Fun
and Friendship.
Insurance re taxation department - September charitable Probes Clubs.
We can give money to charity providing 75% of members agree e.g. Central Coast Disabled School given large
donation by a Probus Club.
Probus South Pacific can be contacted and we can learn from them but please language needs to be
controlled when contacting them .
There are 9 Board members who are all accountable.
If all agree to changes in the Constitution it will be making it easier for PSP.
Up until 2010 Probus Centre South Pacific paid no tax but now PSP returns deferred and there is so
much tax to pay.
Information days were paid for by Probus South Pacific but 8 clubs did not attend.
As there was no more time for further questioning Gary made himself available after the meeting
for further questions and answers.
There being no further general business meeting closed at 11.00 a.m.
Christmas entertainment by Colleen Potts OAM and U3A (University of Third Age) Dance Group.
Meeting closed at 12 noon and all present wished the Compliments of the Season for a Happy, Safe and Healthy
Christmas and invited to enjoy lunch in the Billabong restaurant.
Next Quarterly Meeting will be held Tuesday 5 th . March 2013
Bulletin Editor’s Report:
Welcome again to another bulletin.
I hope all who attended the regional meeting and
listened to Gary Blackler gained something from
it. I thought he explained the situation very well.
Certainly the changes to the wording in the
constitution make sense especially to combined
and small clubs.
Wasn’t the entertainment great. Colleen Potts
has trained her “Diamond Tappers” very well and
just think that they are all over sixty and some a
lot more).
Fun, Fellowship and Friendship that is what
PROBUS is about and if the Region can assist you
and your club in achieving this, that is what we
are about.
The 100 passenger SolarSailor is the new cruise vessel on Lake Macquarie and is available for morning/afternoon tea,
lunch, twilight and dinner cruises as well as special events, 7 days a week.
The vessel has easy, flat access on board and can pick-up passengers from Booragul, Speer’s Point, Toronto or
Belmont wharves. (Please see our terms and conditions attached).
Our menus are available on our website or please ring or email and we will send our selection.
In 2013, on the first Friday of every month we will be running our cake on “Cake on the Lake” tours for groups of 20
or more. The cost is $39.00 per head for morning tea and a scenic 1 ½ cruise around the Lake.
