Financial Highlights of the Year
• 93.1% of the Board’s revenue is derived from grants and taxes received
under the province’s educational funding model i.e. “Grants for
Students Needs”. Funding is driven by the number of students in the
Board’s Elementary and Secondary schools as well as program grants
specific to the Board. Funding is shared between the Province of
Ontario and the amount of taxation received through the local tax base.
• The Board completed the fiscal year in a balanced position without the
use of reserve funds. In the future we will continue to focus our efforts
on ensuring that resources are directed in a manner that supports the
strategic direction of the Board in an effective and efficient manner.
• Salaries and Benefits are a significant component of the Boards costs.
37.5 million dollars is spent on salaries and benefits representing
77% of operating cost.
• The Board continues to experience a decline in enrolment at both
the Elementary and Secondary School level. Overall enrolment has
decreased by 126 FTE or 2.7% from the previous year. This trend is
consistent with that experienced by other Boards in the province
and is expected to continue for the next couple of years.
• The Board continued to receive capital funding under the Good Places
to Learn grants as well as the Ministry of Education’s Energy and
Efficiency grants. The Board has recently completed an energy audit
of all its schools and will be using the information to identify capital
expenditures that will reduce the amount of energy used by the Board.
