The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC) is leading a global movement
to protect children from sexual exploitation and abduction.
About Us
The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC) works to identify and coordinate a
global network of organizations fighting child‐sexual exploitation and abduction. ICMEC’s work brings
promise to children and families by:
Establishing a global resource to find missing children and prevent child sexual exploitation;
Creating national centers and affiliates worldwide;
Building an international network to disseminate images of and information about missing children;
Providing training to law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, legal professionals, nongovernmental
organizations, and government officials;
Advocating for and proposing legislative changes to national laws, international treaties, and systems
to protect children worldwide;
Conducting international expert conferences to build awareness, encourage, and increase cooperation
and collaboration between and among countries; and
Working alongside financial industry and law enforcement to combat commercial child‐sexual
exploitation.
ICMEC offers full‐ and part‐time internships each academic semester. All J.D. candidates (1L, 2L, or 3L)
are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will be highly motivated students with excellent research skills
and a passion for public interest work.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct in‐depth research into national legislation in place in 196 countries around the world on the
issue of international trafficking of children for purposes of sexual exploitation;
Analyze the collected data to identify trends and common themes, gaps and areas that are
insufficiently addressed, and different responses to adult and child trafficking;
Identify tools that are already in place and research other available resources from NGOs and other
organizations working on trafficking issues;
Assist with drafting a Best Practices Guide on protecting children from trafficking;
Monitor and report on news, legislation, and policy developments from around the world on the
issues of child trafficking;
Attend and report on selected local briefings, meetings, and conferences;
Undertake special projects and assignments as needed.

Experience and Qualifications
Commitment to public service required;
Bachelor’s degree required, and must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school;
Minimum 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale required;
Excellent research, writing, communication, and analytical skills;
Strong Internet‐based research and word processing skills essential;
Self‐starter who can work well independently and within a team;
Ability to speak a foreign language preferred;
Knowledge of children’s issue and previous child advocacy experience preferred.
Compensation
Legal internships are unpaid positions; however, legal interns may receive academic credit through an
approved law school program.
Legal interns will be reimbursed for parking or public transportation expenses.
Hours
Legal interns are required to work a minimum 8 weeks for at least 15 hours per week during Fall, Spring,
or Summer semesters.
Legal interns will be excused to attend internship program functions and for academic holidays or
vacations.
