The current vision of the future European forest monitoring Socio-economics: yes in principle • The current ICP Forest/EU forest monitoring activities are technical while MCPFE that gives a broader view, including socio-economic aspects. • MCPFE: biodiversity, climate change, etc are not expressed in economic terms and not linked with the characteristics of the forests. • Objectives of EFMS: “to demonstrate the value of monitoring forests and forestry for society”, “to provide scientifically robust information for the political decision-making processes”.
