Better define the notion of “European added
value”
• Important issue: e.g. selection criteria of projects (eg
Forest Focus) or in the elaboration of the EFMS
• Definition: a value for “whole of Europe” or “European
regions” (eg Mediterranean region)
• Opposed to (sub-)national needs: “Regional information is
needed, we need room for this” (Göttingen). “Perception that there
was too much emphasis on European ‘added value’ at the expense
of servicing national needs” (Life+ Farnham Meeting)
• The subject needs more analysis and clarification
