d) Performance requirements (PERFOMANCE it ): A score <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> zero is allotted if<br />

The <str<strong>on</strong>g>impact</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> combined score for incentives, i.e., a sum <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> scores given for<br />

incentives <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> a combined score for removal <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> restricti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> inward FDI flows is<br />

examined. It is expected that a higher score will be associated with higher inflow <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> FDI.<br />

The analysis is also undertaken separately for FDI from developed <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> developing<br />

countries.<br />

Internati<strong>on</strong>al FDI Policy<br />

Bilateral Investment Treaties<br />

In c<strong>on</strong>trast to the number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> trading <str<strong>on</strong>g>agreements</str<strong>on</strong>g>, there are very few <str<strong>on</strong>g>investment</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>agreements</str<strong>on</strong>g> that exist. However, there has been a substantial increase in number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

bilateral <str<strong>on</strong>g>investment</str<strong>on</strong>g> treaties (BITs) that have been signed <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> brought to force in the last<br />

two decades <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> particularly in the 1990s 6 . In general, BITs deal exclusively with<br />
