The Lads Tour, April 2010 - Part 3 Slovakia (cont):
April 24 TH 2010 (cont):
Spisska Nova Ves was next. I had not been to this part of Slovakia before and I was looking forward to
seeing the Bo-Bo Cl.131s. These are single ended locomotives and run in pairs with the driving cabs
at either end. They should be classified as Bo-Bo + Bo-Bo, as everyone I saw ran in numerical order
ie. 131001 was paired with 131002 and 3 with 4 and so on. Another class I had not seen before was
the 183s but by the end of the tour I had seen almost half.
The next depot was Margecany which was in a very scenic rural location. It contained Cl.812 DMUs
with trailers, a Cl.710 shunter and 5 Cl.731s.
Kosice was next, but when we arrived there it was difficult to find a parking space, the reason being it
was holding an open day. The round house was full of preserved locomotives and units, a bonus. The
steam locos were moved to provide good photographic opportunities. The roundhouse had been
cleared to accommodate the preserved stock, with many of the normal allocation moved down to the
straight shed. Behind the straight shed was another small shed where newly painted 363 133 was
tucked away (see below)...we found it ! Also present was an example of a 4wh shunter common to
many depots for internal use.
