Naval Echo Sounder VE 5900
Reliable and Robust Navigation Aid
The naval echo sounder system VE 5900 is especially designed to meet the requirements of a
modern surface combatant. No other system meets such a number of military specifi cations and
offers such outstanding modularity for perfect adaptation into a new or existing design.
General
The VE 5900 is the latest model of the VE series with
hundreds of systems sold and in service on naval vessels
all around the world. In continuation of this good
tradition this latest digital version of the VE 5900 meets
all relevant military specifi cations in terms of shock,
vibration, temperature, humidity, EMI and noise – to
name only a few. This separates the VE 5900 from other
available systems that may be designed in accordance
with these standards but not type tested.
Key Features
Solid as a rock
All control and display is concentrated in the main unit without any external electronics.
Also data storage is performed in this unit. The large color display offers
an intuitive setup and operation as well as recall of recorded data. Economy is
an important factor. Therefore the VE 5900 is offered for different depth ranges,
from 1,000 m to full ocean depth. The choice of transducers follows these depth
ranges and the special installation conditions on board of the vessel.
To fi t into any type of new building or modernization program the VE 5900 is
available in a variety of confi gurations. For the main unit a stand-alone housing
with shock mounts is offered or the system may also be installed in an existing
19” rack. Depending on the requirements the VE 5900 offers a number of equipment
to extend the system, like SVT sensors, pressure sensors, digital slave
displays, interfaces to ship networks or printers.
Underwater Comms System UT 3000
Digital Hydroacoustic Link

DISCOVER THE UNKNOWN
Underwater Comms System UT 3000
Digital and Analogue Communication at Speed and Depth
The UT 3000 is the latest version of underwater communication systems designed and built by
L-3 ELAC Nautik. The system is a milestone in the history of underwater communication as it
offers proven digital data transmission for the fi rst time.
General
The UT 3000 is the fi rst proven system to offer digital
data transmission in addition to analogue voice communication.
It is already installed in an increasing number
of submarines and surface ships worldwide.
Digital communication opens an infi nite number of new
applications for a submarine at speed and depth. Fast
exchange of tactical, operational and navigation data
are only a few examples for the use of the system. Now
also covered communication can be realized effectively.
And there is much more to come, as automated identifi
cation procedures.
Like its predecessors – the UT 12 and UT 2000 – the
UT 3000 is designed, built and certifi ed to meet all
relevant military specifi cations. This ensures safe and
reliable communication even under harsh conditions.
The system setup and therefore installation is as easy as with the former systems.
All electronics are combined in the main unit with connectors to the transducers
and interfaces.
All features at your finger tips
A large display offers an unbeaten intuitive operation and variety of features as
telephony, telegraphy, digital data transmission and reception, noise measurement,
distance measurement and emergency mode. The online and offl ine BITE
supports an uninterrupted availability of the system.
Up to four transducer groups are supported for directional or omni-directional
transmission within the widest frequency range available on the market. On surface
ships an optional outboard transducer enables communication even under
adverse conditions.
Underwater Comms System UT 3000
System Overview
Easy Integration on Surface Vessels and Submarines
Control and display unit SEB 34
The control and display unit SEB 34 combines all electronics for transmission
and reception as well as processing, power supply and control and display.
The SEB 34 has been designed for maximum maintainability. It is opened up
in seconds and the PCBs are arranged for easy access and replacement. This
reduces the MTTR in most cases to a few minutes.
L-3 ELAC Nautik offers a stand-alone housing with shock mounts, but the unit
may also be installed in an existing 19” rack.
Transducers
Two transducer versions are offered for surface ships and submarines. The cylindrical
transducer array WB 54 is a compact array for surface ships with space
limitations or for an easy refi t. It offers sector and omni-directional transmission
and may be integrated in a sonar dome.
Pre-defined interfaces
The pre-defi ned interfaces enable exchange of all relevant
data between the UT 3000 and the ship’s network.
The blanking interface makes sure that the UT 3000
does not interfere with other active or passive acoustic
sensors on board of the surface ship or submarine.
An optional outboard transducer set for surface ships
consists of a deck mounted connection box and a transducer
on a cable. Under adverse acoustic conditions the
surface ship is still capable to communicate with the
submarine by using this outboard transducer.
Outboard transducer TSE 7
For higher output power requirements in excess of
1,000 W an enhanced version of the UT 3000 is offered
on request as well.
Transducer WB 54 and WB 55
The planar transducer array WB 55 is the optimum choice for a distributed integration
with maximum performance. Typically three or four of these arrays are
integrated in the hull of a surface ship or submarine. A specially designed dome
for combining three or four WB 55 arrays is available as well.
