level of literacy among women should also witness a corresponding increase in the
number of those who study the Bible so as to help others accept the message of the
Sacred Scriptures. This, we hope, will effect significant changes in those who
already appropriate the Old Testament, sometimes wrongly, in their fight for the
rights of women. A close reading of the Old Testament has elucidated the important
roles of women in the history of the Ancient Israel. Many women are playing
similar roles in Nigerian society and this should be a starting point in our honest
quest for the rights of women.
