<strong>Design</strong>ing Command and Control Audiovisual (<strong>AV</strong>) Systems<br />

Introduction<br />

This section is intended to provide the reader with guidelines for the development of operation<br />

or command centers. Typically, these types of facilities are developed to support many types<br />

of functions including, but not limited to:<br />

• Management of voice and data network communications.<br />

• Military operations.<br />

• Government operations.<br />

• Law enforcement operations.<br />

• Transportation operations.<br />

• Data management.<br />

• Product management.<br />

• Facility operations.<br />

• Traffic management.<br />

• Crisis management.<br />

Typical acronyms used to describe an operation center (OC) include:<br />

• Network operations center (NOC).<br />

• Satellite operations center (SOC).<br />

• Emergency operations center (EOC).<br />

• Command and control center (CCC).<br />

NOTE:<br />

For the purposes of this chapter, the acronym OC will be used to describe any<br />

type of operation or command center.<br />
