CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
GENERAL: All Riders will work both ways of the ring at
the same gaits required in the class.
LEAD LINE: Rider will be led in at a walk and worked
each way of the ring. The rider will be individually trotted
past the judge. Riders are expected to post, but correct
diagonals are NOT required.
WALK-TROT MAIDEN: A rider showing academy walktrot
maiden must never have shown outside of a barn
show except for lead line or showmanship. Maiden
riders may compete at the maiden level for one show
only in the walk-trot division
WALK-TROT-CANTER MAIDEN: A rider showing
academy walk-trot-canter maiden must never have
shown outside of a barn show except for lead line,
showmanship and/or academy walk-trot maiden.
Maiden riders may compete at the maiden level for one
show only in the walk-trot-canter division.
SHOWMANSHIP AT HALTER: See USA Equestrian
Rule Book, Rule XXXV, Chapter XI.
WALK-TROT: correct diagonals required.
WALK-TROT-CANTER: (Intermediate) Correct
diagonals and leads are required.
ADVANCED: Correct diagonals and leads required and
in addition, at least four riders may be asked to perform
a simple workout to be chosen by the judge.
ACADEMY PLEASURE: To be judged as a normal
academy pleasure class. Backing not required.
Horsemanship is paramount. SADDLE SEAT
ACADEMY PLEASURE must give the appearance of
being a collected Saddle Seat type horse. SCHOOL
HORSE ACADEMY PLEASURE is open to any other
school or lesson horse that does not fit the saddle seat
type of horse (i.e. western, hunt seat or aged horses).
There can be no cross entry between walk-trot-canter
and advanced and no cross entry between saddle seat
academy pleasure and school horse academy pleasure.

Class 10 – Championship 18 & Over Advanced
Equitation – the first eight places in Class 2
to qualify.
Class 11 – Championship 17 & Under Advanced
Equitation – the first six places from Classes
1 and 3 to qualify.
Class 31 – Championship 17 & Under Walk-Trot-Canter
Intermediate Equitation – first three places
from Classes 14A-14B-15 and 17.
Class 32 – Championship 18 & Over Walk-Trot-Canter
Intermediate Equitation – first six places
from Classes 16 and 18.
Class 33 – Maiden Walk-Trot-Canter Championship –
18 & Over - first eight places from Class 19.
Class 34 – Maiden Walk-Trot-Canter Championship –

WALK-TROT
1. Stand up in posting position – hold position until
judge says to sit. Hands may be on saddle.
2. The judge can ask some riders to go back to the
rail and do a workout around the ring at a walktrot,
reverse walk-trot, etc. and return to lineup.
3. Trot a straightaway showing a change of
diagonals; rider does not have to start on correct
diagonal.
WALK-TROT-CANTER
4. Trot down straightaway to end, stop, reverse
and canter back.
ADVANCED
6. On a straightaway, trot half way on the correct
diagonal, stop, and canter the remaining
distance on the correct lead.
7. Trot a figure eight or trot a serpentine.
8. Canter down straightaway, stop, then ride a circle
at a trot.
9. Trot down straightaway, stop, and canter a circle

RULES AND EXPLANATIONS
There will be a $40 post entry fee PER CLASS for entries received after April 11, 2007 for the spring show and
after October 31, 2007 for the fall show.
1. This show is open to riders who have not competed in a show other than a private stable show or academy
classes wherever held, OR who have only competed in walk-trot, lead line or showmanship at halter in open
shows; except for ADVANCED CLASSES which may be entered by riders who have shown at a one day open
show and/or B level show and are now participating in an academy program.
2. Attire: Jodhpurs or dark pants, a collared white or colored long sleeve shirt, tie, jodhpur boots or sturdy shoes.
Sweater vest or sweater permitted; no habits, fitted vests or hats (helmets are strongly recommended).
3. The horse must be stable owned, leased, or a sale horse AND of the academy or hireling type (must be used in a
teaching program).
4. Equipment: Horse must be shown in appropriate saddle (cutback or park academy pleasure). Normal academy
equipment (i.e. martingales, snaffles, etc.) permitted in walk-trot and walk-trot-canter classes. No German
martingales in advanced classes. Wraps, shin boots, bell boots and blinkers permitted.
5. Age of riders is as of December 1, 2006.
6. Walk-trot riders may only enter walk-trot equitation and/or walk-trot academy pleasure classes. Walk-trot-canter
riders may only enter walk-trot-canter equitation and/or walk-trot-canter academy pleasure classes. Riders may
not cross-enter. Advanced riders may only enter advanced academy pleasure classes.
7. Trophies for first place; ribbons through eighth place.
8. Current Coggins test required.

10. Show office must be notified by the instructor or representative of the instructor of any scratched entries.
Scratches without notification will be charged the class fee.

Academy points earned at this show will count toward the IASPHA and MAHSA Academy point total.
MAIDEN-WALK-TROT-CANTER CLASSES ON SATURDAY
We have expanded the maiden equitation division and added maiden academy pleasure classes. We hope to help the
teachers and trainers by equalizing the competition as much as possible. We now offer walk-trot-canter maiden 18 &
over, 14-17, 11-13 and 10 & under. Championship divisions for maiden walk-trot-canter are 18 & over and 17 & under.
We will continue maiden walk-trot on Sunday with age divisions 7 & under, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-17 in maiden equitation
with two maiden equitation championships – 10 & under and 11-17. We feel adult maiden is not needed. REMEMBER:
A rider showing academy maiden must never have shown outside of a barn show (except lead line and showmanship).
Maiden riders may compete at the maiden level for one show only. If a rider starts in April, they may show maiden; the
November show they will compete as beginner. The maiden academy pleasure classes (saddle seat and school type) will
be divided into 10 & under, and 11-17. There will be no maiden academy pleasure championship classes. Please refer to
the class specifications portion of the program for championship qualifications.
SPONSORSHIPS
UPHA Chapter 10 appreciates any and all sponsorships for our show. Class sponsorship fees are $20 and
championships are $25.
RAFFLE
The academy show provides a raffle for additional funding to offset the cost of the show. All donations are accepted and
add to the fun. Please bring your donation to the show office. Your generosity is appreciated.
